On 3 Jan 09 William Piggott, age 68, 3872
Braun Road, Belpre, reported a creosote buildup in a stove
pipe led to a small fire in his utility building. Causing minimal
damage the fire was extinguished by the Dunham Fire Department
(790).
On 3 Jan 09 Deputy Sheriff K. Travaglio issued
citations to Michael D. Scoggan, age 24, 18155 State Route
550, Marietta, and Greg A. Hart, age 18, 442 Washington Street,
Macksburg, for not wearing seat belts. Deputy Travaglio originally
stopped the vehicle driven by Mr. Scoggan for not stopping
at a stop sign at the intersection of Main and Broad streets
in Aurelius Township.
On 3 Jan 09 Ruth Carver, age 82, 175 Millers
Lane, Marietta, reported an unknown suspect claiming to represent
a prize company phoned her several times a day and harassed
her until she sent the company $290 via Western Union. This
case remains under investigation (610).
On 3 Jan 09 a seventeen year old Marietta
resident reported sometime during the past day an unknown suspect
entered her bedroom and stole $28, her driver’s license
and social security card from her purse. This case remains
under investigation (610).
On 3 Jan 09 an employee at Family Dollar in
Vincent reported she believed the assistant manager and a cashier
took items from the store without paying for them. The witness
said the assistant manager, Velina Miller, age 29, 1262 Walsh
Road, Vincent, took three trash bags outside, placed one bag
in the dumpster and placed the other bags in the bed of a truck
and the cab of a truck driven by Barbara Smith, age 31, 320
Third Street, Lowell. Questioned by Deputy Sheriff Carr regarding
the allegations of stealing, Ms. Miller and Ms. Smith both
admitted taking items from the store without paying for them.
The total cost of the items taken and subsequently recovered
from Ms. Smith and Ms. Miller were $39.77 and $55.64, respectively.
In consequence Deputy Carr requested summonses for Ms. Miller
and Ms. Smith for theft.

were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Tony Wayne Roach, age 45, 223 Greene Street, Marietta, for
operating a vehicle with an expired license, a misdemeanor.
Roach was arrested on Greene Street by Patrolman Huffman of
the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 3 Jan 09 at 12:56 am.
Ronald Duane Hoke, age 40, 3750 Highland Ridge Road, Lowell,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Hoke was arrested at his residence by
Deputy Sheriff Thorpe and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 3 Jan 09 at 2:22 am.
Robert Scott Baker, age 41, 213 Vine Street, Marietta, for
disorderly conduct by intoxication and for possession of drugs,
both misdemeanors. Baker was arrested in Marietta by Patrolman
Wenzel of the Marietta City Police Department and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 3 Jan 09 at 3:12 am.
Traci Lea Schwendeman, age 36, 205 Bohl Drive, Marietta, for
using deception to obtain a dangerous drug, a felony. Schwendeman
was arrested on Greene Street by Patrolman Walters of the Marietta
City Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 3 Jan 09 at 2:49 pm.
Gilbert Ryan Pickens, age 18, 404 Macksburg Hill Road, Macksburg,
for driving under a suspended license, a misdemeanor. Pickens
was arrested in Macksburg by Deputy Sheriff McLeish and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 3 Jan 09 at 9:00 pm.
Gary Aaron Demoss, age 34, 17955 State Route 26, Reno, for
violating the terms of a protection order, a misdemeanor. Demoss
was arrested on Elizabeth Street by Patrolman Augenstein of
the Belpre City Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 3 Jan 09 at 9:30 pm.
Shawn Robert Oliver, age 25, 915 Sugar Run Road, Marietta,
for driving under a suspended license, a misdemeanor. Oliver
was arrested on Pike Street in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff McLeish
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 3 Jan 09 at
11:45 pm.
