BURGLARY OF ELDERLY MAN’S HOME
On 30 Dec 08 Deputy Sheriff Lockhart was dispatched to the
scene of a burglary at the residence of Frank Chute at 312
Simpson Street in Marietta. Deputy Lockhart’s investigation
revealed that approximately $10,000 worth of old and collectible
coins, two hand guns and a DVD player were stolen from the
residence. Later in the afternoon an employee at a local bank
phoned the Sheriff’s Office with information that a male
subject cashed in a large quantity of old coins. The male subject,
later identified as Kenneth Sparks, age 31, 319 Simpson Street,
Marietta, commented to bank employees that he had a lot more
old coins and he would be back later to exchange them for cash.
Verifying Sparks’ address as being 319 Simpson Street,
Deputy Lockhart obtained and executed a search warrant at Sparks’ residence.
The resulting search of Sparks’ residence and belongings
revealed a large amount of coins inside an ammunition can,
a DVD player and a blue safe. The victim’s daughter,
who is the property’s caretaker and who reported the
burglary, positively identified the seized items as belonging
to her father. As a result of his investigation Deputy Lockhart
requested a warrant for Mr. Sparks for a second degree felony
charge of burglary. Mr. Sparks’ whereabouts are currently
unknown.
