On 29 Dec 08 Sgt. Stackpole was dispatched
to the scene of a fire at 305 Jennison Street, Beverly. Elvie
Shaulis, age 69, phoned 911 after she awoke to a burning smell
and exited the residence with her husband and grandchild. Not
suspicious in nature, the cause of the fire appears to be faulty
wiring. A member of the Beverly-Waterford Fire Department said
the fire extinguished itself prior to their arrival but department
confirmed the fire was quenched.
On 29 Dec 08 Detective Rhodes requested a
summons for Dennis J. Jones, age 19, 801 Jones Road, Waterford,
for underage consumption of alcohol. Mr. Jones was a passenger
in a vehicle whose driver was stopped for a headlight violation
in the vicinity of the Waterford Fairgrounds. Mr. Jones had
a strong odor of alcohol and admitted imbibing four or five
beers at a Christmas party earlier in the evening.
On 29 Dec 08 Sgt. Underwood responded to the
scene of death of a fifty-nine year old Cutler resident. The
woman’s death appears natural; no foul play is suspected.
On 29 Dec 08 Sandra L. Schafer, age 61, 3700
Pleasant Ridge Road, Marietta, reported several articles of
mail were stolen from her mailbox on 22 Dec. Ms. Schafer said
a check she wrote for her cell phone bill was one of the items
taken and the suspect who took the mail made himself the check’s
payee and cashed it at a local bank. This case remains under
investigation (610).
On 29 Dec 08 Nicole A. Cook, age 25, 42 Hickory
Drive, Little Hocking, reported sometime since 26 Dec an unknown
suspect(s) entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse
along with other small items. This case remains under investigation
(707).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Larry Gene Hodges Jr., age 29, 500 Vandalia Avenue, Cleveland,
for driving under an FRA suspended license, a misdemeanor.
Hodges was arrested on Interstate 77 by Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 29 Dec 08
at 1:30 am.
Austin Paul Pulver, age 18, 416 O’Neal Street, Belpre,
for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Pulver
was arrested at the office of Probation Officer Brockmeier
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 29 Dec 08
at 9:15 am.
James Nathan Carte, age 28, 80 Greene Street,
Newport, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on
unpaid fines, a misdemeanor. Carte was arrested on State Route
7 by Chief Bourne of the New Matamoras Police Department and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 29 Dec 08 at 3:30
pm.
