On 18 Dec 08 Lt. Coppernoll, while working as resource officer at Warren High School, investigated an assault committed by a fifteen year old student on a sixteen year old student. The assailant claimed he retaliated after being punched in the groin but Lt. Coppernoll found several inconsistencies in his statement. This case remains open pending an interview with the victim.

On 18 Dec 08 Matthew Belt, age 36, 740 Cole-Coffman Road, Marietta, injured his middle and ring fingers during his shift at Eramet. Transported to the hospital, Mr. Belt said he suffered the injury when he unhooked a chain and the excess chain loosened and fell on his hand. A witness confirmed the incident was purely accidental (608).

On 18 Dec 08 Deputy Sheriff Carr requested a summons for a twelve year old Belpre resident to appear in Juvenile Court for being unruly. The girl’s stepfather reported the juvenile was upset that she was asked to do the dishes and began hitting the walls, throwing things and screaming. When Deputy Carr arrived at the home the juvenile was visibly upset and crying. She said she didn’t think it was fair that she was asked to do the dishes.

On 18 Dec 08 Norma Hanson, age 21,18001 State Route 676, Marietta, reported she was at her estranged husband’s residence to allow him to see their son when the two engaged in an argument over their failed marriage. Ms. Hanson said her husband, Drew E. Hanson, age 22, 460 Coal Run Drive, Lowell, grabbed her by the neck and tried to force her out of the room where they were arguing. Able to grab her son and escape, Ms. Hanson exhibited marks on her neck consistent with her account. Mr. Hanson tried to provide a plausible explanation for his actions, saying his wife pushed him and wrapped her arm around his neck. However, evidence was not present to support Mr. Hanson’s version of events. As a result, Deputy Sheriff Richards arrested Mr. Hanson for domestic violence and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
