On 18 Oct 08 Deputy Sheriff Mankins requested
a summons for Amanda Nelson, age 34, 53 McComas Drive, Little
Hocking, for child endangerment. Deputy Mankins’ summons
alleges Mrs. Nelson either ingested illegal narcotics or abused
a prescription drug and passed out while she was watching her
two five year old children. A relative found the two boys playing
near the road and had difficulty rousing Mrs. Nelson from her
slumber.
On 18 Oct 08 Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio arrested
Julie R. Varhola, age 39, 38349 State Route 821, Dexter City,
for possession of drugs and for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Stopping Ms. Varhola for operating a vehicle with a loud exhaust,
Deputy Travaglio noticed an odor of marijuana emanating from
the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded marijuana
found near the gearshift and two pipes and a bag of marijuana
found in Ms. Varhola’s purse.
On 18 Oct 08 the owner of the Fox Den, 1820
State Route 821, Lower Salem, reported a patron at the bar
was highly intoxicated and trying to talk her into dating him.
When the owner rebuffed the advances with a joke, Mark P. Bender,
age 53, 3725 Minor Road, Copley, OH, threw a beer bottle at
her. The beer bottle missed the owner but struck a vending
machine and shattered the glass of the machine. Mr. Bender
remained uncooperative when Deputy Sheriff Norman arrived but
was finally corralled and arrested for disorderly conduct by
intoxication.
On 18 Oct 08 Deputy Sheriff Carr requested
a summons for a sixteen year old Belpre resident to appear
in Juvenile Court for being unruly. The teenager’s mother
said her daughter is verbally abusive and does not want to
live in the home. Prior to his departure Deputy Carr heard
the juvenile curse at her mother and also observed the two
struggling as the teenager attempted to leave the residence.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Mark Peter Bender, age 53, 3725 Minor Road,
Copley, OH, for disorderly conduct by intoxication, a misdemeanor.
Bender was arrested
at the Fox Den by Deputy Sheriff Norman and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 18 Oct 08 at 12:40 am.
Robert Chandler Hayes, age 18, 121 Sylvan Way, Marietta, for
driving under a suspended license, speeding and for having
expired license plates, all misdemeanors. Hayes was arrested
on State Route 7 by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 18 Oct 08 at 7:42 pm.

both misdemeanors. Varhola was arrested on State Route 821
by Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 18 Oct 08 at 10:01 pm.
