On 27 Sep 08 Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio issued
a citation to Jon N. Starr, age 19, 66780 Hoover Road, Salesville,
OH, for performing an illegal u-turn. Deputy Travaglio stopped
Mr. Starr after he turned from traveling northbound to southbound
on State Route 7 at the Interstate 77 off ramp in Marietta.
On 27 Sep 08 Lois J. Secoy, age 65, 463 Baker
Road, Little Hocking, reported the tenant of her property at
126 Pine Drive, Little Hocking, sold a picnic table on the
property during a yard sale at the residence. This case remains
under investigation (712).
On 27 Sep 08 Deputy Sheriff Thorpe issued
a citation to Chad A. Westbrook, age 23, 2220 Federal Road,
Little Hocking, for not stopping at a red light. Deputy Thorpe
stopped Mr. Westbrook for not stopping at a red light at the
intersection of US 50 and Farson Street in Belpre Township.
On 27 Sep 08 Colt Wynn, age 23, 5350 Warren
Chapel Road, Marietta, reported the passenger side window of
his vehicle was shattered while parked outside the Lawnsdale
that evening. This case remains under investigation (1293).
On 27 Sep 08 Deputy Sheriff Norman conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Tony W. Oliver Jr., age
19, 184 Third Street, Lowell, after Mr. Oliver nearly struck
his cruiser while passing another vehicle on State Route 821.
Exhibiting an odor of alcohol, Mr. Oliver performed poorly
on field sobriety tests. Mr. Oliver said he and his passengers
had been consuming alcohol and one of them was underage. Nathan
A. Sprague, age 19, 206 Fifth Street, Marietta, readily admitted
consuming alcohol. Arrested for underage consumption of alcohol,
Sprague provided a breath sample that registered .059 BAC.
Mr. Oliver was arrested for .02 breath underage OVI and transported
to the Washington County Jail. Oliver tested .042 BAC.
On 27 Sep 08 Deputy Sheriff Day arrested John
C. Northrup, age 66, 121 Howard Street, Marietta, for using
a weapon while intoxicated. Earlier in the evening a neighbor
reported Mr. Northrup was shooting a weapon across their property.
When interviewed, Mr. Northrup was on his porch drinking wine
and admitted shooting his .22 caliber rifle at targets mounted
on trees at the edge of his property line.
On 27 Sep 08 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks was dispatched
to the scene of a possible domestic altercation at 12858 State
Route 676, Watertown. Elizabeth Westgate, age 47, said she
arrived home to find her front door damaged and reported the
incident because she didn’t think her husband was allowed
to damage the door. Mrs. Westgate’s husband said he had
to force his way into the home because he did not have a key
and all of the doors were locked. Both parties agreed that
no threat or physical violence took place. As a result, Deputy
Smeeks closed this case as unfounded.
On 27 Sep 08 a sixty-eight year old Marietta
resident reported her fifteen year old grandson, of whom she
has custody, left their residence without permission. The juvenile
was later located at the Roller Rink and returned to his grandmother’s
custody. At the time he was located the teenager had an odor
of alcohol and was in possession of a bottle of malt liquor.
In consequence, Deputy Sheriff Smeeks requested a summons for
the teenage to appear in Juvenile Court on charges of being
unruly and delinquency by underage consumption of alcohol.
On 27 Sep 08 Sgt. Brockmeier and Deputy Sheriff
Anderson investigated a domestic dispute at 4860 Shay Ridge
Road, New Matamoras. While receiving treatment for her injuries,
Melissa J. Beagle, age 26, said her live-in boyfriend Don Barnhart,
age 32, shoved her down multiple times and also pushed her
off their porch. Questioned at his residence, Mr. Barnhart
said Ms. Beagle repeatedly charged toward him, forcing him
to push her away from him. Barnhart’s claim was supported
by visible bruising as well as a witness statement confirming
his story. While Deputy Anderson requested a summons for Ms.
Beagle for domestic violence, he arrested Mr. Barnhart for
domestic violence and transported him to the Washington County
Jail.

were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Brian Lee Miller, age 43, Marietta, for domestic violence,
a misdemeanor. Miller was arrested at 105 Franklin Street by
Patrolman Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 27 Sep 08 at 12:49
am.
Nathan Allen Sprague, age 19, 206 Fifth Street, Marietta,
for underage consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor. Sprague
was arrested on State Route 821 by Deputy Sheriff Norman and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 27 Sep 08 at 2:19
am.
Tony Wayne Oliver Jr., age 19, 184 Third Street, Lowell, for
.02 breath underage OVI and for improper passing, both misdemeanors.
Oliver was arrested on State Route 821 by Deputy Sheriff Norman
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 27 Sep 08
at 2:39 am.
Thomas Gregory Huck, age 37, 105 Fifth Street, Marietta, for
nonsupport of dependants, a misdemeanor. Huck was arrested
at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Rhodes and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 27 Sep 08 at 8:25 am.
Don Wesley Barnhart, age 32, 4860 Shay Ridge Road, New Matamoras,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Barnhart was arrested
at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Anderson and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 27 Sep 08 at 3:40 pm.
John Cross Northrup, age 66, 121 Howard Street, Marietta,
for using a weapon while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. Northrup
was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Day and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 27 Sep 08 at 5:25 pm.
Charles F. Simmons III, age 24, 19441 Circle Drive, Guysville,
OH, for violating the terms of his probation and for failure
to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines, both
misdemeanors. Simmons was picked up at the Athens County line
by Deputy Sheriff Thorpe and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 27 Sep 08 at 9:35 pm.
Michael Wayne Moore, age 28, 205 Muskingum Drive, Marietta,
for hit-skip, a misdemeanor. Moore was arrested at Applebee’s
by Patrolman Blasko of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 27 Sep 08
at 10:15 pm.
