On 14 Sep 08 Deputy Sheriff Thorpe issued
a citation to Shirley A. Schulteis, age 55, 140 Gale Avenue,
Newport, for not wearing a seat belt. Deputy Thorpe originally
stopped Ms. Schulteis for having a cracked windshield while
traveling on State Route 7 near Newells Run Road in Newport
Township.
On 14 Sep 08 Christina M. Bailey, age 32,
4055 Patten Mills Road, Stockport, was transported to Marietta
Memorial Hospital after she reportedly ingested an overdose
of medication. Mrs. Bailey claimed she was not trying to kill
herself, saying she only wanted attention from her husband
(805).
On 14 Sep 08 Timothy Smithberger, age 40,
260 DAV Road, Whipple, reported when he returned home after
leaving town the previous Friday he noticed a broken window
in his garage that appears to be a failed attempt to enter
his home. This case remains under investigation (610).
On 14 Sep 08 a forty-one year old Marietta
resident reported his eleven year old son received several
harassing and vulgar text messages while they were in church
that morning. This case remains under investigation (296).
On 14 Sep 08 Steve Barnhart, age 34, 2610
Braun Road, Belpre, reported he left his Chevy Blazer in the
parking lot of the Lawnsdale, 2355 Briggs Hill Road, Belpre,
overnight and when he returned to drive it home he noticed
all four of the tires had been punctured. This case remains
under investigation (707).
On 14 Sep 08 the Dunham Volunteer Fire Department
responded to and extinguished a barn fire at 5222 Veto Road,
Vincent. Filled only with old hay, the cause of the fire is
unknown and will be investigated by the State Fire Marshall’s
Office (1090).
On 14 Sep 08 Ray A. Needs, age 55, 554 Sand
Ridge Road, Watertown, reported sometime overnight an unknown
suspect(s) entered an unlocked storage building on his property
and stole a Cub Cadet riding mower, a folding table and a library
table. This case remains under investigation (712).
On 14 Sep 08 Ryan Nichols, age 32, 341 Tadpole
Run Road, Belpre, reported being informed by a neighbor that
the previous day a male subject removed a number of items from
his unoccupied residence and detached garage. Mr. Nichols said
neighbors identified the suspect as James E. Wright, age 41,
665 Tadpole Run Road, Belpre, and saw him hauling a trailer
away from the residence containing a riding mower, hot water
tank and toolbox. Questioned by Deputy Sheriff Thorpe, Mr.
Wright admitted taking the items and said he sold them as scrap
because he was unemployed and needed the money. As a result,
Deputy Thorpe requested warrants for Mr. Wright for breaking
and entering and theft.

were processed into the Washington County Jail:
William Dwight McFall, age 49, 823 Grandview Avenue, New Matamoras,
for OVI, a misdemeanor. McFall was arrested in New Matamoras
by Chief Bourne of the New Matamoras Police Department and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Sep 08 at 1:05
am.
Kim Marie Hughes, age 39, 1722 Elizabeth Street, Belpre, for
assault and for domestic violence, both misdemeanors. Hughes
was arrested at her residence by Patrolman Stump of the Belpre
City Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 14 Sep 08 at 7:37 am.
Austin Paul Pulver, age 18, 416 O’Neal Street, Belpre,
for forgery and theft, both felonies. Pulver was arrested at
her residence by Patrolman Hively of the Belpre City Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
14 Sep 08 at 7:25 pm.
Steven Van Barnhart, age 54, 2610 Braun Road,
Belpre, for domestic violence, a felony. Barnhart turned himself
in to
Patrolman Clevenger of the Belpre City Police Department and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Sep 08 at 10:30
pm.
