On 18 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff K. Travaglio was
dispatched to the scene of a camper fire at 15747 Waterford
Road, Waterford. The blaze, extinguished by The Beverly Fire
Department, burnt the camper beyond recognition and damaged
electrical wires and a shed nearby. Further investigation revealed
two juveniles ran from the camper just prior to the fire. One
of the juveniles admitted being inside the camper when he suddenly
saw his friend, an eleven year old Middleport resident, light
a piece of paper. The juvenile threw the flaming paper onto
a stack of newspapers and the two fled as black smoke began
to rise from the camper. Interviewed in the presence of his
father, the eleven year old admitted starting the fire and
directed Deputy Travaglio to the location of the lighter he
used. As a result of her investigation, Deputy Travaglio requested
a summons for the eleven year old to appear in Juvenile Court
on a charge of delinquency by committing arson.
On 18 Aug 08 Steven E. Thompson, age 32, 4869
Pike Road, Saint Marys, reported a John Deere riding mower
and a go kart were stolen from his former residence at 7331
State Route 676, Waterford, while he was in the process of
moving between 15 and 29 Jun. This case remains under investigation
(200).
On 18 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued
a citation to Eric W. Orend, age 29, 705 Barclay Street Apt.
29, Belpre, for not wearing a seat belt. Deputy Smeeks stopped
Mr. Orend for following another vehicle too closely on State
Route 7 near milepost eight in Blennerhassett Township.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Messias Oliveira Silva, age 27, 3346 Manchester Way, Westerville,
OH, for operating a vehicle without a license and for speeding,
both misdemeanors. Silva was arrested on near milepost four
on Interstate 77 by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 18 Aug 08 at 12:45 am.
Travis Blake Shahan, age 23, 2821 Emerson Avenue, Parkersburg,
for OVI and for driving outside the marked lanes of travel,
both misdemeanors. Shahan was arrested near milepost eleven
on State Route 7 by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 18 Aug 08 at 2:15 am.
Laurie Beth Phan, age 26, 300 Alderman Street, Marietta, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines,
a misdemeanor. Phan was arrested at Marietta Memorial Hospital
by Patrolman Ritchie of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Aug 08
at 8:12 am.
Michael Allen Rinker, age 28, 216 Center Street,
London, OH, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing
on unpaid fines and for violating the terms of his probation,
both misdemeanors. Rinker was picked up at the Tri-County Regional
Jail by Deputy Sheriff Reeder and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 18 Aug 08 at 4:00 pm.
Richard Glenn Newman II, age 42, 200 Pennock Drive Lot 21,
Beverly, for breaking and entering, a felony. Newman was arrested
at the intersection of Second and Greene streets by Patrolman
Hively of the Marietta City Police Department and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 18 Aug 08 at 7:35 pm.
Mitchell Dean Needs, age 28, Marietta, for felony charges
of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, attempted escape and
tampering with evidence and for misdemeanor charges of possession
of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with
custody and contributing to the unruliness of a minor. Needs
was arrested in Marietta by Detective Hawkins of the Marietta
City Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 18 Aug 08 at 9:00 pm.
