On 4 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio issued
a citation to Lucas J. Raymond, age 24, 9689 Indian Lake Road,
Byesville, OH, for not wearing a seat belt. Deputy Travaglio
stopped Mr. Raymond for having a cracked windshield on State
Route 7 near Sanjubar Road in Marietta Township.
On 4 Aug 08 an employee of Merchants Five
Star, 18192 State Route 7, Marietta, reported sometime overnight
an unknown suspect(s) stole seven semi-truck rims, each weighing
around eighty pounds, and various other scrap aluminum and
steel from storage locations on the business’ property.
This case remains under investigation (1293).
On 4 Aug 08 Mae Walker, age 28, 690 Congress
Road, Belpre, reported her husband Robert, age 29, assaulted
her following an argument over caring for their children. Mrs.
Walker said her husband grabbed her by the neck, threw her
to the floor and told her to get out of the house. Admitting
he pushed his wife, Mr. Walker said he did not recollect grabbing
her neck. As a result of his investigation, Deputy Sheriff
Day arrested Mr. Walker for domestic violence and transported
him to the Washington County Jail.
On 4 Aug 08 Ramona Neville, age 68, 14519
State Route 339, Beverly, reported she was receiving treatment
at Marietta Memorial Hospital for a back injury caused by her
live-in boyfriend, Jorge C. Ramirez, age 37, the previous evening.
An argument between the two erupted when Ms. Neville arrived
to pick up her boyfriend from work at 17110 Muskingum River
Road, Waterford. Ms. Neville said Mr. Ramirez bent her backwards
over her vehicle in attempt to wrestle the keys from her back
pocket. In consequence, Deputy Sheriff Smeeks arrested Mr.
Ramirez for domestic violence and transported him to the Washington
County Jail.
On 4 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff Day requested a
summons for Lissa Hefner, age 35, 10693 State Route 550, Vincent,
for telephone harassment. Earlier in the evening a thirty-five
year old Waterford resident reported Ms. Hefner was phoning
him despite being asked not to do so. Even after Deputy Day
asked Ms. Hefner not to contact the victim, she sent the victim
a text message saying “that was unbelievably stupid.”
TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR COPPER THEFT
At 2:50 am on 4 Aug a security guard at Eramet,
16705 State Route 7, Marietta, reported two males were on the
company’s property and were in the process of loading
scrap copper industrial wire into the bed of a pickup truck.
The guard unsuccessfully attempted to stop the men but did
obtain the vehicle’s license plate number. On patrol
in New Matamoras, Deputy Sheriff Spencer located the suspect
vehicle and its registered owner, Neal D. Groves, age 41, 1308
Williamson Avenue Apt. 4A, New Matamoras. Asked about the large
quantity of scrap copper wire in his truck, Groves admitted
taking the items from Eramet but stated his passenger and accomplice
Kevin A. Williams, age 20, 712 Fourth Street, New Matamoras,
OH told him they had permission take the wire. Also in the
back of Groves’ truck Deputy Spencer observed a tool
box containing various cutting tools and wire cutters.
Neal Groves and Kevin Williams were arrested
for theft and criminal trespassing and transported to the Washington
County Jail. Groves was additionally charged with possession
of criminal tools for the items found in his toolbox.

were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Timothy Paul Charlton, age 26, 164 Lake Road, Belpre, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines,
a misdemeanor. Charlton was arrested on Third Street in Belpre
by Patrolman Augenstein of the Belpre City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 08 at
12:04 am.
Paula Sue Staats, age 37, 1455 Patricia Street, Belpre, for
domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Staats was arrested at her
residence by Patrolman Fields of the Belpre City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 08 at
12:10 am.
Neal Daniel Groves, age 41, 1308 Williamson Avenue Apt. 4A,
New Matamoras, for theft, criminal trespassing and for possession
of criminal tools, all misdemeanors. Groves was arrested at
BP in New Matamoras by Deputy Sheriff Spencer and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 08 at 6:35 am.
Kevin Andrew Williams, age 20, 712 Fourth Street, New Matamoras,
for theft and for criminal trespassing, both misdemeanors.
Williams was arrested at BP in New Matamoras by Deputy Sheriff
Spencer and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4
Aug 08 at 6:40 am.
Christopher Robert Karcher, age 29, 45 Caywood
Road, Marietta, for failure to appear and for automobile theft,
both felonies. Karcher was picked up in Licking County by Deputy
Sheriff Reeder and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 4 Aug 08 at 11:55 am.
Thaddeus James Salomon, age 18, 801 Garfield Avenue, Marietta,
for attempted aggravated murder, a felony. Salomon was picked
up at the North Central Regional Jail by Detective Hiatt of
the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 08 at 12:45 pm.
Jorge Contreras Ramirez, age 37, 14519 State Route 339, Beverly,
for being an illegal alien and for a misdemeanor charge of
domestic violence. Ramirez was arrested at his residence by
Deputy Sheriff Smeeks and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 4 Aug 08 at 12:45 pm.
John Robert Suckling, age 56, 104 Nolan Circle, Marietta,
for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Suckling
was arrested at his residence by Probation Officer Brockmeier
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 08 at
12:50 pm.
Mark Anthony Thompkins Sr., age 39, 901 St. George Street,
East Liverpool, OH, for possession of drugs, a felony. Thompkins
was arrested near milepost thirty on State Route 7 by Deputy
Sheriff S. Travaglio and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 4 Aug 08 at 5:23 pm.
Robert Kenneth Walker, age 29, 690 Congress Road, Belpre,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Walker was arrested at
his residence by Sgt. Stackpole of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug
08 at 7:00 pm.
Shaun Allen Griffin, age 24, 403 Lord Street, Marietta, for
robbery, a felony. Griffin was arrested at his residence by
Patrolman Arbaugh of the Marietta City Police Department and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 08 at 11:45
pm.
