On 3 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff Mankins arrested
Cory M. Klinger, age 18, 121 Ohio Boulevard, Marietta, for
underage consumption of alcohol, possession of drugs, possession
of drug paraphernalia and for driving outside the marked lanes
of travel. Admittedly text messaging when he swerved outside
his lane of travel on Interstate 77, Mr. Klinger admitted drinking
a glass of wine at a friend’s home. In a subsequent search
of Mr. Klinger’s vehicle Deputy Mankins discovered two
marijuana pipes, rolling papers and a small amount of marijuana.
On 3 Aug 08 a neighbor reported a vehicle
on the property next door at 2500 Sealy Ridge Road, Vincent,
was engulfed in flames. The owner of the property, Clayton
Allman, was on vacation and operated Allman Garage on the property.
When Deputy Sheriff Travaglio arrived at the scene he observed
four vehicles with substantial damage caused by the fire. Extinguished
by the Barlow, Dunham and Little Hocking fire departments,
the state Fire Marshall’s Office will conduct further
investigation.
On 3 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff Staats arrested
Chad M. Schwendeman, age 26, 427 Strecker Lane, Marietta, for
OVI, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Found slumped over the steering wheel in the 100 block of Front
Street, Schwendeman had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred
his speech. Schwendeman performed poorly on field sobriety
tests and had twenty-three Xanax pills, marijuana and a marijuana
pipe in a pocket on the driver’s side door.
On 3 Aug 08 Elwood H. Sapp Jr., age 75, 104
Tennis Center Drive, Marietta, reported sometime overnight
an unknown suspect cut the lock off his storage unit at 104
Ellsworth Avenue and stole a motorcycle jack. Upon further
inspection it appears five other storage units were entered
though it is unknown at this time if anything was taken. This
case remains under investigation (805).
On 3 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff S. Travaglio requested
a summons for a sixteen year old Marietta resident to appear
in Juvenile Court for being delinquent. Stopped for not using
a turn signal on Lancaster Street, the teenage had only had
a learner’s permit and was found in possession of a butterfly
knife, marijuana and rolling papers.
On 3 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued minor
misdemeanor citations for possession of marijuana to Ryan D.
Lash, age 19, 33012 Springside Lane, Solon, OH, and Jonathan
S. Kogan, age 19, 32865 Shadowbrook Drive, Solon. Mr. Lash,
the driver of the vehicle, was stopped for a traffic violation
on US 50 when Deputy Smeeks’ canine indicated the presence
of drugs in the vehicle. The ensuing search yielded marijuana
in a bag belonging to Mr. Kogan and a marijuana bud in the
vehicle glove compartment that Mr. Lash said was his.
VICTIM ASSISTED AND REVIVED BY 911 DISPATCHERS
At 6:23 pm on 3 Aug 08 the Sheriff’s Office 911 Center
received a call from “Cookie” Buchanan, 19 Meadowcrest
Lane, Belpre, who reported her father Donald Wilcoxen, age
92, was unresponsive and had a piece of meat being lodged in
his throat. Instructed by Dispatcher Jason Hall on how to perform
the Heimlich Maneuver and CPR, Mrs. Buchanan revived her father.
During Dispatcher Hall’s conversation with Mrs. Buchanan,
Dispatcher Jeremiah McConnell toned out and dispatched Little
Hocking EMS to the scene. Noticing Mr. Wilcoxen was gasping
for air when they arrived, squad members removed the meat with
a set of forceps. Mr. Wilcoxen was transported to Camden Clark
Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. For their
prompt actions in response to this incident Dispatchers Hall
and McConnell have been awarded the Sheriff’s Award.

were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Cory Michael Klinger, age 18, 121 Ohio Boulevard, Marietta,
for possession of alcohol, possession of drugs, possession
of drug paraphernalia and for driving outside the marked lanes
of travel, all misdemeanors. Klinger was arrested at the Pit
Stop by Deputy Sheriff Mankins and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 3 Aug 08 at 1:04 am.
Chad Matthew Schwendeman, age 26, 427 Strecker Lane, Marietta,
for OVI, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia,
all misdemeanors. Schwendeman was arrested on Front Street
in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 3 Aug 08 at 5:30 am.
Sarah Elizabeth Wriston, age 21, 11565 State Route 821, Lower
Salem, for driving under an FRA suspended license, a misdemeanor.
Wriston was arrested near Farm Fresh on State Route 7 by Deputy
Sheriff K. Travaglio and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 3 Aug 08 at 3:55 pm.
Kenneth Eugene Wriston Jr., age 33, 303 38th Street, Vienna,
for failure to reinstate his operator’s license, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines
and for failure to appear, all misdemeanors. Wriston was arrested
near Farm Fresh on State Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff K. Travaglio
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 3 Aug 08 at
4:00 pm.
Sarita Selina Jones, age 36, 614 McKinley Avenue SW, Canton,
for driving under an FRA suspended license and for speeding,
both misdemeanors. Jones was arrested on Interstate 77 by the
Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 3 Aug 08 at 6:30 pm.
