CAR FIRE LEADS TO ARREST
On 1 Aug 08 Deputy Sheriff Travaglio was dispatched to 146
Stone Quarry Road, Fleming, in response to a vehicle fire that
members of the Barlow Volunteer Fire Department deemed suspicious.
Fire personnel stated that this was the third vehicle fire
involving Clarence Tullius, age 41. Furthermore, a witness
at the scene said Mr. Tullius bragged about making money off
an insurance claim he filed after a previous vehicle fire.
When questioned, Tullius stated when his mother woke him the
front end of his 2000 Dodge Stratus was aflame and he rushed
outside to remove his stereo equipment from the dash and trunk
of the car. Mr. Tullius relayed the same story to an investigator
from the Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Office. Confronted
with the facts that none of the audio equipment smelled like
smoke and that the equipment did not have evidence of being
forcibly removed, Tullius admitted lying about the sequence
of events. Tullius went on to say he removed the radio two
days ago and that he removed an amplifier and speakers the
night before the fire. Tullius further stated that the fire
had started because he intentionally flicked a cigarette under
the driver’s side tire into a pile of grass. Due to the
fact that Tullius earlier signed an affidavit of declaration
for an insurance claim that the fire was accidental, Tullius
was arrested for falsification and transported to the Washington
County Jail. Additional charges against Tullius, who was later
released on a personal recognizance bond, may be forthcoming.
