On 4 Jun 08 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks requested
a summons for a sixteen year old Marietta resident to appear
in Juvenile Court for a traffic violation. Stopping the juvenile
for not using a turn signal when he turned from North Hart
Street onto Greene Street, Deputy Smeeks learned from a computer
check that the teenager had only a learner’s permit and
that it expired in April. Deputy Smeeks issued the juvenile
a citation for operating without a license and released him
and his fifteen year old passenger to their parents.
On 4 Jun 08 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued a
citation to Thomas W. Jackson, age 26, 240 Sixth Avenue Apt.
9, Huntington, WV, for traveling 73 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputy
Smeeks stopped Mr. Jackson near milepost twenty-three on State
Route 60 in Waterford Township.
MAJOR CRIMES TARGETS PLEAD GUILTY, ARE SENTENCED
During the past week, two suspects involved in the trafficking
of drugs in the Athens area investigated by the Major Crimes
Task Force agreed to plea deals with the Athens County Prosecutor’s
Office. As part of her agreement, Karen S. Spears, age 51,
pled guilty to two third degree felony counts of trafficking
in drugs. Spears was sentenced to concurrent terms of four
years in prison, to pay $960 in restitution to the Task Force
and the forfeiture of items seized during the investigation.
Ronald L. Stevens, age 38, pled guilty to
third degree felony counts of possession of cocaine and trafficking
in cocaine
as well as a fourth degree felony count of trafficking in crack
cocaine. Stevens was sentenced to two three years prison terms
to be served consecutively for a total of six years and will
forfeit all money seized during the investigation.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Dayle Robert Sparks, age 19, 192 Mineral Park Lane, Mineral
Wells, WV, for two misdemeanor counts of failure to appear.
Sparks was arrested on the west side of Marietta by Patrolman
Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 4 Jun 08 at 12:38 am.
Lewis Matthew Evans, age 22, Whiskey Run Road, Saint Marys,
for two felony counts of trafficking in drugs. Evans turned
himself in to Lt. Huffer at the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and was processed into the Washington County Jail on
4 Jun 08 at 10:35 am.
Michael Lee Roux, age 36, 2146 Sandhill Road,
Marietta, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
Roux was arrested at the office of Probation Officer Ferrell
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Jun 08 at
11:10 am.
