On 24 May 08 the owner of the Station Carryout,
9731 State Route 555, Cutler, reported when he arrived to open
the store he noticed a window of the business was broken and
that an unknown suspect(s) stole approximately thirty packs
of Marlboro cigarettes. This case remains under investigation
(586).
On 24 May 08 Deputy Sheriff Rhodes arrested
Douglas J. Kern, age 48, 416 Kern Road, Waterford, for OVI,
child endangerment and for driving outside the marked lanes
of travel. Stopped on Watertown Road, Mr. Kern was traveling
with his fourteen year old son and had a strong odor of alcohol.
Mr. Kerns slurred his speech as he admitted drinking more than
ten beers before being stopped and performed poorly on field
sobriety tests. When transported to the Washington County Jail
Mr. Kerns refused a BAC test.
On 24 May 08 Deputy Sheriff Malone investigated
the report of a male lying along the roadway in the vicinity
of Hickory Drive in Little Hocking. Locating the suspect, Deputy
Malone noticed Angelo V. Knox, age 19, 3558 School House Road,
Little Hocking, appeared intoxicated. Knox admitted drinking
alcohol that evening but declined to say where or in whose
company he was. As a result, Deputy Malone requested a summons
for Mr. Knox for underage consumption of alcohol and for disorderly
conduct by intoxication.
On 24 May 08 an employee of the Washington
County Humane Society, 90 Mount Tom Road, Marietta, reported
an unknown male left a voice message using a lot of foul language
and twice made statements about burning the building. This
case remains under investigation (1184).
On 24 May 08 Deputy Carr was serving a warrant
on Craig T. Coughlin, age 21, 205 ½ Montgomery Street
Apt. C, Marietta, when he noticed two marijuana pipes inside
Mr. Coughlin’s apartment. Admitting the pipes were his
and he smoked marijuana last night, Mr. Coughlin was arrested
for the active warrant and for possession of drug paraphernalia.
On 24 May 08 Deputy Sheriff K. Travaglio was
dispatched to the scene of a domestic dispute at the residence
of Melanie Stephan, age 46,180 Maynard Drive, Little Hocking.
Mrs. Maynard said the incident began between her husband Mark,
age 49, and their seventeen year old son. In fear for his safety,
the teenager grabbed a knife, at which point Mr. Maynard grabbed
by the throat and forced him to the floor. Mr. Maynard then
turned his anger onto his wife, pinned her to a wall and bit
her ear and shoulder. Corroborating the victim’s statements,
Deputy Travaglio arrested Mr. Maynard for two counts of domestic
violence and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
On 24 May 08 a sixteen year old Marietta resident
reported other campers at Haught Run Campground informed her
that the driver of a blue Chevy truck struck her vehicle and
left the scene. The victim’s vehicle sustained functional
damage (610).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Douglas James Kern, age 48, 416 Kern Road, Waterford, for

lanes of travel, all misdemeanors. Kern was arrested in Watertown
by Deputy Sheriff Rhodes and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 24 May 08 at 1:53 pm.
David Fredrick Myers, age 26, 246 Benn Lake Road, Walker,
WV, for driving under a suspended license and for having an
inoperable license plate light, both misdemeanors. Myers was
arrested on Braun Road in Belpre by Patrolman Williams of the
Belpre City Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 24 May 08 at 2:12 am.
Shawn Patrick Whalen, age 31, 1713 Plum Run Road, Waterford,
for OVI and for following too closely, both misdemeanors. Whalen
was arrested on Slaughterhouse Hill by the Ohio State Highway
Patrol and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24
May 08 at 3:47 am.
Brent James Overto Harman, age 31, 2606 23rd Street, Parkersburg,
for OVI, driving under a suspended license, for not wearing
a seat belt, for being in possession of an open container of
alcohol and for not wearing a seat belt, all misdemeanors.
Harman was arrested on Seventh Street in Marietta by the Ohio
State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 24 May 08 at 4:08 am.
Craig Thomas Coughlin, age 21, 205 ½ Montgomery Street
Apt. C, Marietta, for littering and for possession of drug
paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. Coughlin was arrested at
his residence by Deputy Sheriff Carr and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 24 May 08 at 3:16 pm.
David Wayne Evans, 37602 Boone Hollow Road, Dexter City, for
two misdemeanor counts of violating the terms of a protection
order. Evans was arrested in Macksburg by Deputy Sheriff Staats
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 May 08
at 4:10 pm.
Aaron Jewell Vaughn, age 40, 55 Albright Road, Beverly, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines,
a misdemeanor. Vaughn was arrested at his residence by Deputy
Sheriff Carr and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 24 May 08 at 5:55 pm.
Mark Alan Stephan, age 49, 180 Maynard Drive, Little Hocking,
for two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence. Stephan was
arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff K. Travaglio and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 May 08 at 11:40
pm.
