On 15 Apr 08 Sgt. Stackpole
and Deputy Sheriff Smeeks responded to the scene of a trailer
fire at property
owned by Richard Haught at 4643 County Road Nine in Newport.
The Newport Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the flames
spouting from the unoccupied trailer without incident. The
State Fire Marshall’s Office will conduct follow up regarding
this incident.
On 15 Apr 08 Carla Pottmeyer, age 36, 1460
O’Linn Road, Marietta, reported being informed by her
neighbor that he observed the driver of a Ford truck stop and
throw three bags of trash over an embankment on her property.
Ms. Pottmeyer said her neighbor followed the suspect to 1830
Christy Road. Contacted by Deputy Sheriff Rhodes, the suspect,
identified as Matthew L. Blair, age 27, admitted disposing
of three bags of used kitty litter on Ms. Pottmeyer’s
property. As a result, Deputy Rhodes requested a summons for
Mr. Blair for littering.
On 15 Apr 08 Alicia Burton, age 34, 21 Garden
City Road, Marietta, reported she believes her boyfriend, against
whom she has a protection order, phoned her at 1:08 pm and
violated said order. This case remains under investigation
(945).
On 15 Apr 08 the daughter of Forrest North,
age 87, 1345 Sheets Run Road, Newport, reported while they
were away from his residence between 7:30 and 10:30 am an unknown
suspect kicked in the home’s front door. Once inside
the suspect(s) stole a safe containing cash and personal documents
and also possibly stole a Derringer pistol from a gun cabinet.
This case remains under investigation (1106).
On 15 Apr 08 Kenneth R. Pottmeyer, age 55,
182 Pottmeyer Road, Fleming, reported on either 12 or 13 Apr
an unknown suspect disposed of a bag of trash on his property.
This case remains under investigation (200).
On 15 Apr Deputy Sheriff Travaglio observed
the driver of a Toyota Supra fishtail when turning from State
Route 7 onto County House Lane and then the vehicle nearly
struck a stopped school bus. Conducting a traffic stop, Deputy
Travaglio noticed an odor of alcohol on the driver, Michael
J. Vollene, age 47, 370 Grubb Road, Marietta, and his passenger,
Mark A. Price, age 45, 380 Grubb Road, Marietta. Performing
poorly on field sobriety tests, Mr. Vollene was arrested for
OVI and reckless operation. Mr. Price was also arrested after
Deputy Travaglio noticed an open can of Budweiser as price
exited the vehicle. Charged with consuming alcohol in a vehicle,
Price was transported to the Washington County Jail with Mr.
Vollene.
TRUCK DRIVER ROBBED AT GUNPOINT
On 15 Apr 08 Otto Schrader Jr., age 34, 7155 Smokerise Lane,
Kernersville, NC, reported he parked his tractor-trailer in
the Macksburg adult video store for the night when a white
male appeared at his window with a gun. Mr. Schrader said the
man, who was unshaven and around thirty years old, ordered
him to hand over his money. Handing the assailant his cash,
Mr. Schrader said the suspect fled toward the old antique store.
The Sheriff’s Office tracking dog “Bogie” also
tracked the suspect in this direction where it appears he left
the scene in a vehicle. BCI & I is assisting in the investigation.
This case remains under investigation.

April K. Boggs, age 29, 51485 Rainbow Ridge,
Long Bottom, for issuing two bad checks totaling for $1,321.66
to Hocking Tire in December 2007.
John C. Fortney, age 19, 4350 State Route 530, Lowell, for
failure to appear and breach of recognizance for failing to
appear for pretrial on 9 Apr 08.
Shawn E. Leasure, age 31, 836 Pike Street Apt. 12, Marietta,
for failing to appear for pretrial on 11 Apr 08.
Helena D. Riggs, age 34, Route 1 Box 127, Lowell, for failing
to appear for pretrial on 11 Apr 08.
Amanda J. Sampe, age 27, 217 Fourth Street, Lowell, for failing
to appear for pretrial on 11 Apr 08.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Andrew Guy Mayle, age 19, 809 Hocking Road,
Belpre, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
Mayle was arrested at his residence by Probation Officer Hamilton
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Apr 08
at 11:20 am.
Keith Allen Drake, age 21, 832 Ridge Street, Marietta, for
theft, failure to appear, breach of recognizance and for driving
under a suspended license, all misdemeanors. Drake was arrested
at K-Mart in Marietta by Patrolman Hanson of the Marietta City
Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 15 Apr 08 at 1:15 pm.
Juaniqua Monique Brown, age 26, 985 17th Street, Columbus,
for failure to appear, a misdemeanor. Brown was picked up in
Franklin County by Deputy Sheriff O’Brien and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 15 Apr 08 at 3:45 pm.
Mark Alan Price, age 45, 380 Grubb Road, Marietta, for consuming
alcohol in a vehicle, a misdemeanor. Price was arrested on
County House Lane by Deputy Sheriff Travaglio and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 15 Apr 08 at 5:26 pm.
Michael Jon Vollene, age 47, 370 Grubb Road, Marietta, for
OVI and for reckless operation, both misdemeanors. Vollene
was arrested on County House Lane by Deputy Sheriff Travaglio
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 15 Apr 08
at 6:12 pm.
Christopher Michael Ball, age 22, 3494 State Route 59, Ravenna,
OH, for a felony and a misdemeanor charge of criminal simulation.
Ball was arrested at the Marietta City Police Department by
Patrolman Hanson and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 15 Apr 08 at 7:37 pm.
