On 7 Apr 08 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks requested
a summons for Bryan P. Hvizdzak, age 31, 100 Luke Chute Road,
Waterford, for disorderly conduct by intoxication. Responding
to an ATV crash on 5 Apr, Deputy Smeeks learned Mr. Hvizdzak
was operating a Yamaha Rhino and rolled the ATV when he attempted
a quick u-turn in a field at 201 Luke Chute Road. While a passenger
on the ATV was uninjured, Mr. Hvizdzak sustained a minor head
laceration and was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Both riders had an odor of alcohol and admitted they consumed
several beers earlier in the evening.
On 7 Apr 08 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks requested
summonses for Alfred D. Hart, age 49, 2650 Braun Road, Belpre,
and for Michael A. Deal, age 45, 2660 Braun Road, for disorderly
conduct. The two men engaged in a heated argument on 5 Apr
after Mr. Hart confronted Mr. Deal for allegedly firing a weapon
onto his property. Deputy Smeeks could not substantiate the
weapons claim but did confirm through a neighbor that the two
men argued while standing in the roadway.
On 7 Apr 08 Corrections Officer Reeder issued
a citation to Jose E. Perez, age 49, 6675 Fairdale Drive, Cambridge,
for driving under an FRA suspended license. CO Reeder viewed
security footage at the jail that Mr. Perez drove himself to
jail on 4 Apr 08 and from previous encounters with Mr. Perez,
CO Reeder knew his license was suspended.
On 7 Apr 08 a thirty year old New Matamoras
resident reported receiving an obscene and threatening phone
call from an unknown male at 8:30 that evening. This case remains
under investigation (296).
On 7 Apr 08 an employee of Smith Concrete,
168 State Route 618, Belpre, reported the business received
a check for $684.80 for concrete on 28 Jan 08 and the check
was later returned for insufficient funds. This case remains
under investigation (8411).
SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR MAKING HOMEMADE BOMB
On 7 Apt 08 Deputy Sheriff Spencer arrested
two suspects for their roles in an incident on 7 Dec 07 that
involved placing a homemade explosive in a mailbox. The affidavit
in support of the arrests alleges that Jerod T. Hall, age 18,
3617 Burnett Road, Cutler and Luke Hall, age 18, 3375 Burnett
Road, Cutler, along with two seventeen year old males, purchased
drain cleaner, aluminum foil and soda bottles. The group then
combined the items and placed the concoction in a Warren High
School student’s mailbox, reportedly in retaliation for
getting one of their friends in trouble at school. Fleeing
in one of the juveniles’ vehicles, the homemade bomb
exploded and completely destroyed the mailbox. While the juveniles
were summonsed to appear on charges of delinquency, both of
the Halls were arrested for a fourth degree felony charge of
possession of a dangerous ordnance. The two have since been
released on their recognizance from the Washington County Jail.
Additional charges may be forthcoming at the discretion of
the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Mark Aaron McIntyre, age 26, 223 Broughton Avenue, Marietta,
for assault, a misdemeanor. McIntyre was arrested at Colonial
Terrace in Marietta by Patrolman Nedeff of the Marietta City
Police Department and was processed into the Washington County
Jail on 7 Apr 08 at 1:23 am.
James Rodney Walters Jr., age 25, 1109 Pike Street, Parkersburg,
for assault, a misdemeanor. Walters was arrested at Hardees
in Belpre by Patrolman Clevenger of the Belpre City Police
Department and was processed into the Washington County Jail
on 7 Apr 08 at 4:16 am.
Brandi Nicole Buck, age 20, 235 Dempsie Avenue, Parkersburg,
for driving under a suspended license and for operating a vehicle
with an expired registration, both misdemeanors. Buck was arrested
on Washington Boulevard in Belpre by Patrolman Stump of the
Belpre City Police Department and was processed into the Washington
County Jail on 7 Apr 08 at 4:53 am.
Bradley Aaron Lone, age 22, Marietta, a military deserter.
Lone was arrested at Colonial Terrace in Marietta by Patrolman
Ellenwood of the Marietta City Police Department and was processed
into the Washington County Jail on 7 Apr 08 at 8:40 am.
Gary Edward Leaster Jr., age 24, 74611 Old
21 Road, Kimbolton, OH, for driving under an FRA suspended
license, for failure to appear, for speeding and for not wearing
a seat belt, all misdemeanors. Leaster turned himself in to
Corrections Officer Reeder and was processed into the Washington
County Jail on 7 Apr 08 at 10:30 am.
Christopher Neil Mayle, age 28, 672 Hill Road, Cutler, for
theft, a misdemeanor. Mayle was arrested in Marietta Municipal
Court by Patrolman Walters of the Marietta City Police Department
and was processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Apr
08 at 11:50 am.
Gregory Lynn Sternberg, age 30, 203 Beringer Street, Northwood,
OH, for driving under an FRA suspended license, for possession
of drugs and for having illegal window tint, all misdemeanors.
Sternberg was arrested on Interstate 77 by the Ohio State Highway
Patrol and processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Apr
08 at 8:13 pm.
Jerod Timothy Hall, age 18, 3617 Burnett Road, Cutler, for
unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance, a felony. Hall
was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Spencer and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 7 Apr 08 at 8:46
pm.
Luke Hall, age 18, 3375 Burnett Road, Cutler, for unlawful
possession of a dangerous ordnance, a felony. Hall was arrested
at Warren High School by Deputy Sheriff Spencer and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 7 Apr 08 at 9:47 pm.
