On 27 Mar 08 Deputy Sheriffs Anderson and
Smeeks conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Shannon
S. Hines, age 19, 1220 Brackenridge Road, Vincent, for having
an inoperable license plate light. While Deputy Smeeks deployed
his canine around the vehicle, Deputy Anderson arrested Mr.
Hines for failure to reinstate his operator’s license.
Deputy Smeeks’ canine indicated the presence of drugs
in the vehicle, prompting Deputy Smeeks to pat down Mr. Hines’ seventeen
year old passenger. The teenager had an odor of marijuana and
in his pocket Deputy Smeeks found a set of finger scales along
with twelve small bags of marijuana, each with a mass of one
gram and packaged for sale. The teenager, admitting all of
the marijuana was his, will be summonsed into Juvenile Court
on a charge of delinquency by drug trafficking.
On 27 Mar 08 Deputy Sheriff Simmons requested
a warrant for Brian V. Gerken, age 53, 3438 Ontario Street,
Columbus, for inducing panic. The affidavit requesting the
warrant states that Mr. Gerken repeatedly phoned Peoples Bank
in Lowell and attempted to obtain transaction information involving
his father’s account. After bank employees repeatedly
denied his requests Mr. Gerken stated if they did not comply
with his request he would bomb the bank.
On 27 Mar 08 Lt. Wilson and Deputy Sheriff
Staats were canvassing Southgate Trailer Court while investigating
a burglar alarm at Ward’s Recycling when Lt. Wilson peered
into a window and observed a male using a dollar bill to snort
something off a blue dinner plate. Deputy Staats contacted
the male inside the trailer, identified as James L. Theiss
Jr., age 36, 27130 State Route 7 Lot 73, Marietta. At first
Mr. Theiss claimed he snorted Tylenol but later recanted and
stated the substance was crushed Vicodin. Inside the trailer
the Deputies found a crack pipe, rolling papers, marijuana
pipes and a purse containing two pill bottles without labels.
While Mr. Theiss admitted the paraphernalia was his, Deputy
Staats determined the purse belonged to one of the trailer’s
other residents, Shelly M. Lucas, age 34. As a result of the
incident, Lucas was arrested for tampering with drugs and possession
of drugs and Theiss was arrested for possession of drugs and
possession of drug paraphernalia.
On 27 Mar 08 Amanda S. Brandjes, age 29, 205
Oak Drive, Little Hocking, reported her husband Jeremy, age
29, flew into a rage during an argument and shoved her into
a corner in their bedroom. When she tried phoning her sister
for help, Mrs. Brandjes said her husband ripped the phone from
the wall and shoved her again. Mrs. Brandjes’ sister
arrived to assist, at which time Mr. Brandjes threatened that
if she didn’t leave in ten seconds he would get his shotgun
and shoot her. Mr. Brandjes never produced the weapon but Mrs.
Brandjes’ sister stated she feared for her safety because
of the threat. In consequence, Deputy Sheriff Spencer arrested
Mr. Brandjes for domestic violence and aggravated menacing
and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
On 27 Mar 08 Deputies responded to an alarm
at Ward’s Recycling at 27430 State Route 7, Marietta.
An unknown suspect forced his way into the business and fled
without stealing anything after the alarm sounded. This case
remains under investigation.
On 27 Mar 08 George H. Klintworth, age 68,
2640 Lowell Hill Road, Lowell, reported sometime over the past
month a fourteen foot john boat and five horsepower motor were
stolen from his lot at 14030 Muskingum River Road, Lowell.
This case remains under investigation (790).
On 27 Mar 08 William Shaffer, age 60, 1457
Winding Ridge Road, Parkersburg, reported a push lawnmower,
a charcoal grill and a battery charger were stolen while he
was moving other property from his former residence at 488
Beach Drive in Belpre. This case remains under investigation
(586).
On 27 Mar 08 Deputy Sheriff Day arrested Richard
D. Bailey, age 51, 10260 State Route 550, Vincent, for disorderly
conduct. Called to the scene to investigate a dispute between
Bailey’s brother and nephew, Deputy Day was unable to
perform his duties due to Mr. Bailey’s repeated interruptions
and his failure to cooperate.
On 27 Mar 08 Gary Wolfe, age 28, 718 Cisler
Drive, Marietta, reported sometime during the past week an
unknown suspect stole $20 and an eighty gigabyte Ipod from
his desk at Chevron-Phillips. This case remains under investigation
(586).
On 27 Mar 08 Jeffrey Morris, age 30, 100 Bae
Circle, Marietta, reported between 10:30 pm on 26 Mar and 4:30
am on 27 Mar his father’s Toyota Tacoma was stolen from
his father’s residence at 165 Smith Drive, Marietta.
This case remains under investigation (292).

Shannon Scott Hines, age 19, 1220 Brackenridge Road, Vincent,
for failure to reinstate his operator’s license, a misdemeanor.
Hines was arrested at the intersection of Greene and Seventh
Streets in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Smeeks and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 27 Mar 08 at 1:40 am.
Jeremy Lee Brandjes, age 29, 205 Oak Drive, Little Hocking,
for domestic violence and for aggravated menacing, both misdemeanors.
Brandjes was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Spencer
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 27 Mar 08
at 1:45 am.
Shelly Marie Lucas, age 34, 27400 State Route 7 Lot 73, Marietta,
for a felony charge of tampering with drugs and for a misdemeanor
charge of possession of drugs. Lucas was arrested on State
Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 27 Mar 08 at 4:15 am.
James Lincoln Theiss II, age 36, 27400 State Route 7 Lot 73,
Marietta, for possession of drugs and for possession of drug
paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. Staats was arrested on State
Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 27 Mar 08 at 4:15 am.
Meredith Lee Burris, age 27, 614 Cisler Drive, Marietta, for
a felony charge of being a military deserter. Burris was arrested
at the Marietta City Police Department by Patrolman Hively
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 27 Mar 08
at 8:01 am.
Athena Terese Stillwagon, age 31, 207 ½ Florence
Street, Belpre, for two misdemeanor counts of failure to appear.
Stillwagon was arrested in Municipal Court by Patrolman McClelland
of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 27 Mar 08 at 10:18 am.
Ryan David McFann, age 23, 105 State Route 555 Apt. 5, Little
Hocking, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
McFann was arrested at the office of Probation Officer Brockmeier
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 27 Mar 08
at 4:01 pm.
Richard Dean Bailey, age 51, 10260 State Route 550, Vincent,
for disorderly conduct by fighting, a misdemeanor. Bailey was
arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Day and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 27 Mar 08 at 10:35 pm.
