On 11 Feb 08 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued
a citation to Andrew W. Jones, age 19, 24238 Woodsfield Road,
Summerfield, OH, for traveling 65 mph in a 45 mph zone. Deputy
Smeeks stopped Mr. Jones on State Route 339 near Stoney Run
Road in Waterford Township.
On 11 Feb 08 an employee of Siemer Distributing,
1400 Commerce Drive, New Lexington, OH, reported in November
the owner of a store in New Matamoras paid $990.86 for frozen
food with a check that was returned for non-sufficient funds.
This case remains under investigation (8411).
On 11 Feb 08 the father of a fifteen year
old Cutler resident reported his son continuously tries to
access pornography on their home computer despite repeated
attempts to forbid him from doing so. The teenager’s
father said his son refuses to abide by house rules and he
fears his son’s pornography obsession will escalate.
As a result of the juvenile’s behavior, Deputy Sheriff
Malone requested a summons for the teenager to appear in Juvenile
Court for being unruly.
On 11 Feb 08 Deputy Sheriff Eddy investigated
a case of ongoing mental abuse involving Linda Vance, age 47,
and her father Melvin Vance Jr., age 77, both of 3680 Upper
Archers Fork Road, Marietta. On numerous occasions Ms. Vance
stated her father has threatened to kill her and that she intentionally
failed to pay her fines in order to get arrested so she could
get away from him. Ms. Vance further indicated she feared her
father would kill her and is constantly afraid she would say
the wrong thing and enrage her father even more. Confirming
Ms. Vance’s claims with another family member, Deputy
Eddy arrested Mr. Vance for domestic violence and transported
him to the Washington County Jail.
On 11 Feb 08 Deputy Sheriff Travaglio conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle on State Route 555 for not using
a turn signal. Speaking to the driver, John G. Hughes, age
41, 300 Norris Cemetery Road, Cutler, Deputy Travaglio noticed
odors of alcohol and marijuana. Mr. Hughes stated the odor
of marijuana was from a marijuana pipe in the vehicle’s
console that he recently used to smoke marijuana. In addition
to finding the marijuana pipe when he searched the vehicle,
Deputy Travaglio located several empty Busch Light beer cans
and a half full can. Also finding marijuana in Mr. Hughes’ pocket,
Deputy Travaglio arrested Mr. Hughes for possession of drugs,
possession of drug paraphernalia and consuming alcohol in a
vehicle and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Athena Terese Stillwagon, age 31, 207 ½ Florence
Street, Belpre, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing
on unpaid fines and for failure to appear, both misdemeanors.
Stillwagon was arrested in Belpre by Patrolman Williams of
the Belpre City Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 11 Feb 08 at 4:07 am.
John Garrett Hughes, age 41, 330 Cemetery
Lane, Cutler, for failure to signal, for consuming alcohol
in a vehicle, for possession of drugs and for possession of
drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors. Hughes was arrested on
State Route 555 by Deputy Sheriff Travaglio and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 11 Feb 08 at 4:24 pm.
Melvin Vance Jr., age 77, 3680 Upper Archers Fork Road, Marietta,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Vance was arrested at
his residence by Deputy Sheriff Eddy and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 11 Feb 08 at 11:40 pm.
