On 27 Jan 08 the Sheriff's Office responded
to a call at the residence of Robert and Sherida Atkinson,
1210 Burnett Road, Cutler, concerning a person being severely
bitten by a dog. The investigation revealed a Rottweiler bit
the arm of Sherida Atkinson, age 50, while she tried to separate
the Rottweiler from another dog, both of which were owned by
the Atkinsons. The Dog Warden arrived at the scene, took custody
of the dog and later euthanized the Rottweiler at the request
of the owner. Sherida Atkinson was transported to the hospital
by the Wesley Township Fire Department. This incident has been
referred to and is under investigation by Steve Strahler, Washington
County Dog Warden.
On 27 Jan 08 Deputy Sheriff Tucker issued a citation to Ray L. Branche, age 76,
2156 Pineridge Drive, Wickeliffe, OH, for traveling 84 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Deputy Tucker stopped Mr. Branche on Interstate 77 near milepost thirteen in
Salem Township.
On 27 Jan 08 Deputy Sheriff Travaglio conducted
a traffic stop on State Route 60 after the driver of a vehicle
cut him off and nearly caused a collision. Assisting at the
scene was Deputy Staats, whose canine indicated the presence
of drugs in the vehicle. During the search that ensued Deputy
Travaglio located a pipe containing burnt marijuana under a
rear passenger seat where Timothy J. Metz, age 21, 22762 Caldwell
Road, Quaker City, previously sat. Charged with possession
of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, Mr. Metz was
arrested at the scene. While Mr. Metz was transported to the
Washington County Jail, Deputy Travaglio released the vehicle’s
driver, Roger K. Smith, age 43, 13687 Catbird Road, Byesville,
with a citation for failing to obey the right of way, for not
using a turn signal and for not being in possession of his
operator’s license.
On 27 Jan 08 Sgt. Stackpole and Deputy Sheriff
Norman responded to a 911 hang up call at 255 Highland Ridge
Road, Marietta. A witness at the residence stated his mother
Dorothy Smith, age 39, and her live-in boyfriend Jerry Seabolt,
age 36, were arguing and fighting in kitchen. Beginning with
comments Mr. Seabolt made concerning Ms. Smith’s ex-husband,
the Deputies determined both parties were equally involved
and there was not a primary aggressor. Consequently, Deputy
Norman requested summonses for Ms. Smith and Mr. Seabolt for
disorderly conduct by fighting.
On 27 Jan 08 Deputy Sheriff Lockhart issued
a minor misdemeanor citation to Gary M. Henthorn, age 37, 33205
State Route 800, New Matamoras, for possession of marijuana.
Deputy Lockhart stopped Mr. Henthorn on State Route 7 near
Sandhill Road and discovered a marijuana joint in Mr. Henthorn’s
pocket during a consensual search.
On 27 Jan 08 Mindy Wargowsky, age 52, 615
Morris Drive, Cutler, reported since 7 Jan 08 an unknown suspect(s)
used her debit card information to amass $745.03 in fraudulent
charges. This case remains under investigation (1207).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Jason Thaddeus Mace, age 24, 18001 State Route 676, Marietta,
for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Mace
was arrested at the Locker Room in Marietta by Patrolman Arbaugh
of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 27 Jan 08 at 12:52 am.
Heather Leighann Diamond, age 30, 11975 Linton Road, Logan,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Diamond was arrested
at 701 Pike Street in Marietta by Patrolman Newell of the Marietta
City Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 27 Jan 08 at 2:45 am.
Timothy James Metz, age 39, 22762 Caldwell Road, Quaker City,
OH, for session of drugs and for possession of drug paraphernalia,
both misdemeanors. Metz was arrested on State Route 60 by Deputy
Sheriff Travaglio and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 27 Jan 08 at 1:01 pm.
Katie Marie Caplinger, age 18, 400 Main Street Apt. 9, Waterford,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Caplinger was arrested in Beverly by
Patrolman Hunter of the Beverly Police Department and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 27 Jan 08 at 4:02 pm.
Jaquam Dangelo Brooks, age 20, 44491 Maple Hill Road, Shalotte,
NC, for driving under a suspended license, speeding, for improperly
handling a weapon in a vehicle and for possession of drugs,
all misdemeanors. Brooks was arrested on Interstate 77 by the
Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 27 Jan 08 at 9:35 pm.
