On 14 Jan 08 Deputies and Detectives were dispatched to the scene of death of a fifty-three year old Lowell resident. Though the cause of the man’s death appears to be suicide, this case remains under investigation (1184).

On 14 Jan 08 a thirty-four year old Lowell resident reported when she arrived home her seventeen year old son was drunk on Mad Dog 20/20 and continued to drink in front of her. Confrontations over loud music and a cell phone followed, with the juvenile growing increasingly agitated and throwing things around the home. The juvenile continued to argue and make threats, then grabbed his mother by the neck and tackled her to the floor. Rescued by her boyfriend, the mother held her son at bay until deputies arrived. As a result of the incident, Deputy Sheriff Simmons arrested the teenager for delinquency by domestic violence and underage consumption of alcohol and transported him to the Washington County Juvenile Center.

On 14 Jan 08 a Pepsi employee reported when he returned to his truck after delivering items inside Byer’s Exxon he observed a male remove two cans of Mountain Dew from the Pepsi truck and place them inside his jacket. The suspect, later identified as Joseph S. Gruse, age 38, 115 Sandhill Road, Marietta, fled on foot but was later located near Cedar Bark Apartments. At that time, Gruse was arrested for theft and transported to the Washington County Jail (790).

On 14 Jan 08 Deputy Sheriff Reynolds requested a summons for Jonathan Ruth, age 18, 1630 Braun Road, Belpre, for disorderly conduct by fighting. Ruth was involved in an altercation with his fifteen year old brother over an Xbox 360 game that resulted in both siblings incurring minor injuries. Ruth’s brother summonsed as well, but to Juvenile Court for delinquency by disorderly conduct.

On 14 Jan 08 Sgt. Underwood issued a citation to Bryce A. Honaker, age 20, 50074 State Route 681, Tuppers Plains, for operating a vehicle with a registration that expired in October 2007. Sgt. Underwood stopped Mr. Honaker on US 50 near Drag Strip Road in Belpre Township.

Phillip Zachariah Singer, age 18, 18 Hanover Road, Cutler, for underage consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor. Singer was arrested on State Route 550 by Sgt. Stackpole of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jan 08 at 2:06 am.

Traci Lea Schwendeman, age 35, 830 ½ Third Street, Marietta, for driving under a suspended license, for having fictitious plates and for giving false information to avoid a ticket, all misdemeanors Schwendeman was arrested on State Route 60 by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jan 08 at 4:12 am.

Joseph Scott Gruse, age 38, 115 Sandhill Road, Marietta, for theft, a misdemeanor. Gruse was arrested in Reno by Deputy Sheriff Carr and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jan 08 at 12:35 pm.

Chad Michael Hatfield, age 24, 9235 Radcliffe Road, Adamsville, for trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs, both felonies. Hatfield was picked up in Guernsey County by Deputy Sheriff O’Brien and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jan 08 at 3:30 pm.

Bryan John Winnen, age 24, 632 Hazel Street Apt. 2, Akron, for three felony counts of using deception to obtain a dangerous drug. Winnen was arrested at Selby Hospital by Patrolman Warden of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jan 08 at 3:40 pm.

Richard Dyle Bay, age 40, 100 Muskingum Terrace Apt. B, Marietta, for failure to appear, a misdemeanor. Bay was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Carr and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jan 08 at 5:34 pm.

Joseph Paul Smith, age 22, 404 ½ Montgomery Street, Marietta, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines, a misdemeanor. Smith was arrested on Fourth Street in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Simmons and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jan 08 at 9:24 pm.

Brandon Lee Kennedy, age 19, 668 Hill Road, Cutler, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Kennedy was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed into the Washington County Jail on 14 Jan 08 at 11:48 pm.
