On 1 Nov 07 Deputy Sheriff Reynolds requested
summonses for fourteen year old and sixteen year old Beverly
residents to appear in Juvenile Court for being delinquent.
The two males admitted they entered an apartment through a
window at Mitchell Manor Apartments in Beverly and stole an
Xbox 360 and ten games.
On 1 Nov 07 Mike Moore, age 48, 1470 Killwell
Run Road, Marietta, reported about a month ago he found four
plastic bags containing trash and clothing on the property
he leases at 90 Nichols Road, Marietta. This case remains under
investigation (1001).
On 1 Nov 07 Deputy Sheriff Staats responded
to the scene of death of a fifty-seven year old Waterford resident.
The woman’s death appears natural; no foul play is suspected.
TWO ARRESTED FOR SALE OF DRUGS
On 1 Nov 07 Detectives of the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics
Unit arrested Brandon Rutherford, age 20, 35 Harris Street,
Newport, for fifth degree felony charges of trafficking in
marijuana and for possession of Xanax, a Schedule IV controlled
substance. Rutheford was observed that afternoon selling ¼ pound
of marijuana to an individual at a residence in Lawrence Township,
for which $620 was paid. Immediately after the transaction
Detectives arrested Rutheford in the driveway of this residence
and located the money used to purchase the marijuana in his
front left pants pocket. A further search of the defendant’s
vehicle by officers revealed four blue oval pills, believed
to be Xanax, located in cellophane between the console and
the driver’s seat. The ¼ pound of marijuana which
had been sold by Rutherford was also located and seized at
the scene.
In a related incident later that day, Detectives arrested
Timothy A. Pethel, age 22, 101 Greene Street Apt. 1, Newport,
for a third degree felony charge of tampering with evidence
and a fifth degree felony charge of possession of Xanax, a
Schedule IV controlled substance. Prior to his arrest Pethel
granted permission to Detectives to search his residence for
marijuana and related items. Detectives located a small amount
of marijuana and a bottle containing fifty Xanax pills that
were not prescribed to Pethel or any household member. After
being read his Miranda rights, Pethel admitted that he had
observed officers arrive, recognized their unmarked cars and
flushed an unknown amount of marijuana down the toilet to avoid
detection. Following that admission, marijuana was located
and recovered from the toilet bowl. Buy money utilized in previous
transactions by undercover operatives to purchase illegal drugs
was also seized from Pethel’s residence.
Both suspects are being held without bond pending their initial
appearance in Marietta Municipal Court.
the Sheriff’s
Office received the following warrants:
Steven E. Hawver, age 45, 204 E. Ninth Street
Apt. D, Williamstown, for contempt for failure to appear at
a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines in the sum of $900.10.
Buffie M. Gerst, age 29, 3501 11th Street,
Vienna, for contempt for failure to appear at a court ordered
hearing on an order to show cause on 22 Oct 07.
Jason M. Kirby, age 35, 16321 Huntmere Avenue,
Cleveland, for contempt for failure to appear at a court ordered
hearing on adjusting child support on 22 Oct 07.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Ryan Elkin Smith, age 18, 1319 10th Street,
Vienna, for possession of a controlled substance, fleeing and
eluding and speeding, all misdemeanors. Smith was arrested
on US 50 by Patrolman Williams of the Belpre City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 1 Nov 07 at
6:15 am.
Frederick Gale McKitrick, age 25, 3010 Burnett
Road, Cutler, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
McKitrick was arrested by Probation Officer Hamilton and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 1 Nov 07 at 9:30 am.
Brandon Kyle Rutheford, age 20, 35 Harris Street, Newport,
for trafficking in drugs and for possession of drugs, both
felonies. Rutheford was arrested on Bear Run Road in Newport
by Sgt. Hiatt of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 1 Nov 07 at
4:50 pm.
Timothy Allen Pethel, age 22, 127 Greene Street Apt. A, Newport,
for tampering with evidence and for possession of drugs, both
felonies. Pethel was arrested at his residence by Sgt. Hiatt
of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 1 Nov 07 at 8:20 pm.
