On 5 Oct 07 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued a
minor misdemeanor citation to Christopher M. Outland, age 22,
4171 W. 62nd Street, Cleveland, for possession of marijuana.
Deputy Smeeks discovered a bag of marijuana after his canine
indicated the presence of drugs in Mr. Outland’s vehicle
during a traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 77.
On 5 Oct 07 Deputy Sheriff Rhodes attempted
to stop a vehicle on State Route 555 near Clark Road when the
driver of the vehicle fled. A pursuit ensued until the Chevy
S-10 skidded off the roadway near milepost ten and crashed
over an embankment into a tree. Deputy Rhodes extricated the
passenger Steven Pierce, age 18, 12500 State Route 690, Athens,
and returned to the vehicle to also remove the driver Hank
A. Wells, age 19, 9299 State Route 555, Cutler, both of whom
were bleeding from the face. While Deputy Rhodes was back at
the truck to search for another alleged occupant, Wells absconded
and has not yet been located. Determining the suspects had
been drinking, Deputy Rhodes charged them both with underage
consumption of alcohol. Wells was also charged with OVI, vehicular
assault, obstruction of justice, fleeing and eluding, leaving
the scene of an accident, driving left of center and for possession
of drug paraphernalia.
On 5 Oct 07 Deputy Sheriff Simmons requested
a summons for a sixteen year old Marietta resident to appear
in Juvenile Court for being delinquent. For the past two years
the juvenile’s mother stated her son has been verbally
abusive and today he grabbed her by the arms and threw her
around the house. Additionally, the mother said she took her
son’s video games away and because of that her son threatened
to kill her and burn their house.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Christopher C. Miller, age 23, 805 Race Street,
Parkersburg, for OVI and for speeding, both misdemeanors. Miller
was arrested in Marietta by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 5 Oct 07 at 4:35
am.
Gregg Anthony Byrd, age 34, 9320 19th Avenue
Apt. 204, Hyattsville, MD, for conspiracy to traffic in drugs,
a felony. Byrd was picked up at the Noble Correctional Institution
by Lt. Coppernoll of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 5 Oct
07 at 12:55 pm.
Thomas Eugene Murray, age 30, 60 A. E. Miller Road, Marietta,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Murray was arrested at his residence
by Deputy Sheriff Simmons and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 5 Oct 07 at 9:50 pm.
