On 3 Oct 07 Michael A. Edgar, age 25, 435
Dana’s Run Road, Newport, reported he sold a 1989 Ford
Thunderbird to an individual on 19 Sep and that the $1,600
check the purchaser gave him was later returned because it
was written on a closed account. This case remains under investigation
(1184).
On 3 Oct 07 Deputy Sheriff Reynolds responded
to the scene of death of a fifty-six year old Lowell resident.
The man’s death appears natural; no foul play is suspected.
On 3 Oct 07 the owner of P & M Foundry,
21 Epler Road, Lowell, reported overnight an unknown suspect(s)
stole two fifty-five gallon barrels of scrap aluminum, an additional
400 pounds of scrap aluminum, a transmission, forty pounds
of copper and a gas can from the business. Later that day Sgt.
Stackpole observed a truck containing the stolen items traveling
on State Route 550. The driver, John D. Ragalyi, age 21, Masonic
Park Road, Marietta, was arrested for theft and transported
to the Washington County Jail.
On 3 Oct 07 Barbara Estes, age 24, 9550 State
Route 550, Vincent, reported sometime during the night an unknown
suspect(s) entered an unlocked vehicle parked in her driveway
and in her unlocked garage. Stolen items from the vehicles
and garage are a CD player, CD’s, five fishing poles
and a tackle box. This case remains under investigation (790).
On 3 Oct 07 Donald D. Sparling, age 80, 4525
Sparling Road, Waterford, reported sometime since the beginning
of September an aluminum boat and 270 feet of aluminum irrigation
pipe were stolen from his property. This case remains under
investigation (1293).
On 3 Oct 07 the owner of First Colony Construction,
492 Bramblewood Heights Road, Marietta, reported overnight
an unknown suspect(s) severed the phone, internet and power
lines that run to the inside of his business office. This case
remains under investigation (1293).
On 3 Oct 07 Deputy Sheriff Morris arrested
Samuel A. Hartshorn, age 29, 180 Cornerville Road, Reno, for
.17 breath OVI. Encountering Mr. Hartshorn parked along the
road with his lights on, Deputy Morris stopped to give assistance.
Mr. Hartshorn stated he stopped his vehicle because he dropped
a cigarette while driving and couldn’t find it. Deputy
Morris noticed an odor of alcohol and administered field sobriety
tests. Following his poor performance on the tests, Mr. Hartshorn
was transported to the Washington County Jail where he tested
.210 BAC.

Felicia Christine Jackson, age 26, 300 Phillips Street, Marietta,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines and for violating the terms of her parole, both misdemeanors.
Jackson was arrested at the Four Seasons in Marietta by Patrolman
Chapman of the Marietta City Police Department and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 3 Oct 07 at 2:20 am.
Timothy Paul Charlton, age 26, Route 1 Box 75, Rockport, WV,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Charlton was arrested on Washington Boulevard
in Belpre by Patrolman Jobes of the Belpre City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 3 Oct 07 at
4:16 am.
John David Ragalyi, age 21, Masonic Park
Road, Marietta, for a felony charge of breaking and entering
and a misdemeanor charge of theft. Ragalyi was arrested on
State Route 550 by Deputy Sheriff Smeeks and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 3 Oct 07 at 2:30 pm.
Justin Thomas Smith, age 31, 1278 Bender Road, Marietta, for
violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Smith
was arrested in Marietta Municipal Court by Probation Officer
Hamilton and processed into the Washington County Jail on 3
Oct 07 at 3:15 pm.
Roy Lynn Rex, age 53, 100 Hanover Street, Cutler, for possession
of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and for using a
weapon while intoxicated, all misdemeanors. Rex turned himself
in to Deputy Sheriff Reynolds and was processed into the Washington
County Jail on 3 Oct 07 at 4:14 pm.
Raymond Paul McCarthy, age 24, 608 Washington Square, Marietta,
for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. McCarthy
was arrested at the office of Probation Officer Ferrell and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 3 Oct 07 at 5:20
pm.
Dennis Charles Crockett, age 30, 145 Rake Road, Whipple, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines,
a misdemeanor. Crockett was arrested on Greene Street in Marietta
by Patrolman Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 3 Oct 07 at
11:17 pm.
