HEROIN SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RUN OVER OFFICERS

On 5 Sep 07, after working a lengthy investigation into the trafficking of tar heroin, the Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force and the Major Crimes Task Force conducted a buy-bust operation at a rest stop along US 50 in Athens County. After an undercover operative purchased five balloons containing tar heroin from the suspect Nick Stewart, age 25, 107 Abby Village Apartments, Parkersburg, officers mobilized to arrest Stewart. At that time, Stewart fled in his 1993 Nissan Altima, striking five police vehicles in the rest stop area and nearly striking and running over several officers involved in the apprehension. The pursuit ended when an officer struck and pushed Stewart’s vehicle off the roadway and into a ditch before he could enter US 50.

While Stewart was transported to O’Blennes Hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the crash, officers recovered additional tar heroin from his vehicle. Stewart was later released from the hospital and transported to the South East Ohio Regional Jail where he is incarcerated pending a court appearance.

Additionally, the Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at Stewart’s residence where they recovered suspected stolen property, cocaine, firearms and drug paraphernalia.

The Major Crimes Task Force has charged Nick Stewart with three counts of felonious assault on a police officer, trafficking in heroin and trafficking in cocaine. There will be additional charges submitted to the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office resulting from this incident.
