On 19 Aug 07 Deputy Sheriff Mankins issued
a citation to Jeffrey D. Mayle, age 50, 1620 Coal Street, Chesterhill,
for traveling 55 mph in a 40 mph zone. Deputy Mankins stopped
Mr. Mayle near milepost ten on State Route 550 in Barlow Township.
On 19 Aug 07 Deputy Sheriff Mankins issued
a citation to Donna J. Wolfe, age 43, 13459 Robinson Road,
Glouster, for traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. Deputy Mankins
stopped Ms. Wolfe near milepost eleven on State Route 550 in
Barlow Township.
On 19 Aug 07 Deputy Sheriff Morris responded
to the scene of death of a seventy year old Marietta resident.
The man’s death appears natural; no foul play is suspected.
On 19 Aug 07 Annette Bauerbach, age 46, 2911
Rainbow Road, Lowell, reported she has a protection order against
her soon to be ex-husband Jerry, age 41, approached and harassed
her at the Waterford Fair. Deputy Sheriff Smeeks confirmed
Ms. Bauerbach’s statement with witnesses and also the
fact that Mr. Bauerbach is ordered to maintain a distance of
500 feet from his estranged wife. In consequence, Deputy Smeeks
located Mr. Bauerbach, arrested him for violating the terms
of a protection order and transported him to the Washington
County Jail.
On 19 Aug 07 Deputy Sheriff Durham investigated
a domestic altercation involving Jennifer Wilmoth, age 23,
and her sister Cora A. Beaver, age 18, at their residence at
30 Abicht Drive, Newport. Both sisters blamed the other for
starting the fight that resulted in a split lip for Ms. Wilmoth.
Unable to determine the primary aggressor due to conflicting
statements, Deputy Sheriff Durham requested summonses for both
Ms. Wilmoth and Ms. Beaver for domestic violence.
On 19 Aug 07 Debbie Pryor, age 36, 90 Mitchell
Drive, Newport, reported sometime during the last day an unknown
suspect stole nineteen pills of a prescription she recently
renewed for her daughter. This case remains under investigation
(1090).
On 19 Aug 07 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Tricia V. Ferebee, age
25, 9400 State Route 550, Vincent, for having an inoperable
license plate light. Immediately Deputy Smeeks noticed the
odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Ms. Ferebee admitted
drinking beer earlier and submitted to field sobriety test.
Following her poor performance on the tests Ms. Ferebee was
arrested for OVI. Upset that his live-in girlfriend was being
arrested, Donald W. Kitts, age 24, exited the passenger seat
of the vehicle and exclaimed to Deputy Smeeks he would not
sit back down in the vehicle. Also under the influence of alcohol,
Mr. Kitts was charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication
for failing to cooperate with officers at the scene. While
Mr. Kitts was released to a family member at the scene, Ms.
Ferebee was transported to the Washington County Jail where
she tested .133 BAC.
MOTORCYCLE PURSUIT
On 19 Aug 07 Deputy Sheriff Rhodes began a
pursuit on State Route 550 after observing two motorcycles
traveling at 90 mph. Reaching speeds of over 100 mph, the motorcycles
passed several vehicles on blind hills and turns and on double
yellow lines. One rider stopped near Johnson Road and was taken
into custody. Deputy Rhodes observed the driver, Keith M. Kaine,
age 36, 1607 Hill Street Apt. 6, Belpre, had bloodshot eyes
and administered field sobriety tests. Despite Mr. Kaine’s
claim he was not intoxicated he performed poorly on the test.
As a result, Mr. Kaine was arrested for a felony charge of
failure to comply with the order/signal of an officer and misdemeanor
charges of OVI, operating without a license, operating without
a motorcycle endorsement and speeding. At the Washington County
Jail Mr. Kaine tested .115% BAC. Additional charges are being
filed against the other motorcycle operator.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Michelle A. Knighten, age 23, 507 ½ Third Street, New
Matamoras, for assault and for obstructing official business,
both misdemeanors. Knighten was arrested on Dunn Lane in New
Matamoras by Chief Bourne of the New Matamoras Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 19 Aug 07
at 1:17 am.
Robert Leroy Metheney, age 28, 405 Cougar Street, New Matamoras,
for obstructing official business, a misdemeanor. Metheney
was arrested on Dunn Lane in New Matamoras by Chief Bourne
of the New Matamoras Police Department and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 19 Aug 07 at 2:27 am.
Tricia Velnette Ferebee, age 25, 9400 State Route 550, Vincent,
for OVI, a misdemeanor. Ferebee was arrested on Market Street
in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Smeeks and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 19 Aug 07 at 3:02 am.
Daniel Lee Shaffer, age 33, 45 Dunn Lane, New Matamoras, for
menacing and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. Shaffer was
arrested on Dunn Lane in New Matamoras by Chief Bourne of the
New Matamoras Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 19 Aug 07 at 3:47 am.
Adam Joseph Barbato, age 22, 64 East Stimson Avenue, Athens,
for OVI, a misdemeanor. Barbato was arrested on US 50 by the
Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 19 Aug 07 at 5:12 am.
Carol Lynn Alsept, age 45, 3570 Oakhill Road, Stockport, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines,
a misdemeanor. Alsept was arrested at her residence by Deputy
Sheriff Rhodes and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 19 Aug 07 at 10:28 am.
Keith Michael Kaine, age 36, 1607 Hill Street Apt. 6, Belpre,
for a felony charge of failure to comply with the order/signal
of an officer and misdemeanor charges of OVI, operating without
a license, operating without a motorcycle endorsement and speeding.
Kaine was arrested on State Route 550 by Deputy Sheriff Rhodes
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 19 Aug 07
at 2:03 pm.
