On 30 Jul 07 Mary J. Hart, age 90, 4443 State Route 339, Belpre, reported while being driven to an appointment in her vehicle she noticed an odor of rotten fish. Ms. Hart and her caregiver located the source of the odor, which indeed was fish that was cut into pieces and hidden under a towel in the trunk of the car. This case remains under investigation (1293).

On 30 Jul 07 Todd E. Northrop, age 37, 4215 Warren Chapel Road, Marietta, reported overnight an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked garage and stole two .22 caliber rifles from a work bench as well as loose change from inside his vehicle. This case remains under investigation (1293).

On 30 Jul 07 Deputy Sheriff Eddy was dispatched to the scene of death of an eighty-one year old Marietta resident. The woman’s death appears natural; no foul play is suspected.

On 30 Jul 07 Casey Brown, age 26, 852 Noddy Mill Lane East, Worthington, OH, reported an unknown suspect(s) entered his camper through a roof vent while he was away from the Muskingum River Road lot in Lowell for several hours that afternoon. Once inside the thieves stole a $650 guitar, five fishing poles, a tackle box and $120 in cash. This case remains under investigation (1001).

On 30 Jul 07 Deputy Sheriff Morris issued a minor misdemeanor citation to Eric W. Miller, age 18, 2175 Christy Road, Marietta, for possession of marijuana. Deputy Morris stopped Mr. Miller for a traffic violation on Pike Street and noticed a strong odor of marijuana. Granted permission to search the vehicle, Deputy Morris discovered a marijuana joint in the back seat that Mr. Miller admitted was his.

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Corey Lee Smearman, age 19, 830 Fourth Street, Marietta, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Smearman was arrested at the office of Probation Officer Hamilton and processed into the Washington County Jail on 30 Jul 07 at 8:58 am.

Christopher Robert Karcher, age 27, 45 Caywood Road, Marietta, for felony charges of violating the terms of his parole and possession of drugs and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug abuse instruments. Karcher was arrested on State Route 26 by Lt. Canavan of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 30 Jul 07 at 2:24 pm.

Hoy Dale McCormick Jr., age 46, 305 Third Street NE, Massillon, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines, a misdemeanor. McCormick was picked up in Guernsey County by Lt. Coppernoll of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 30 Jul 07 at 3:47 pm.
