On 20 Jul 07 Deputy Sheriff Staats conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle that left the Outskirts Bar spinning
and squealing its tires as it entered State Route 550 and nearly
struck his cruiser as it turned onto Dodd Run Road. The driver
of the vehicle, Troy E. McKown, age 24, 165 Dodd Run Road,
Marietta, had a strong odor of alcohol and an open can of Budweiser
in the console of his truck. Mr. McKown was unsteady on his
feet and performed poorly on subsequent sobriety tests. Arrested
for OVI and transported to the Washington County Jail, Mr.
McKown tested .169% BAC.
On 20 Jul 07 Larry Dale Haught Jr., age 46,
555 Dodd Run Road, Marietta, was arrested by Deputy Sheriff
Morris for OVI and failure to signal. Deputy Morris observed
Mr. Haught failed to signal when turning from State Route 550
onto Dodd Run Road. As Mr. Haught exited his vehicle to hand
Deputy Morris his license, Mr. Haught stated he was drinking
at the Outskirts Bar and that he consumed between six and nine
shots of Crown Royal. Mr. Haught submitted to field sobriety
tests even though he said he would not pass. Following his
poor performance on the tests Mr. Haught was transported to
the Washington County Jail where he tested .153% BAC.
On 20 Jul 07 an employee of LA Pipeline, 20
Mill Branch Road, Belpre, reported when he arrived at work
that morning he noticed a Lincoln welder and a Dynomax plasma
cutter were missing from inside their building. This case remains
under investigation (1293).
On 20 Jul 07 Deborah Sandy, age 50, 125 Millers
Lane Apt. B1, Marietta, reported while she was in hospital
between May and mid July, her food stamp card was used without
her permission. This case remains under investigation (695).
On 20 Jul 07 Deputy Sheriff Morris responded
to a casualty report at 9950 State Route 60, Lowell. Along
with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers, Deputy Morris
concluded Daniel Pottmeyer, age 23, 310 Greenlawn Avenue, Lowell,
was intoxicated while he rode his bicycle northbound on State
Route 60 and that he accidentally crashed into a ditch and
culvert in the Burkhart Trucking parking lot. The L-A Fire
Department transported Mr. Pottmeyer to Marietta Memorial Hospital
for treatment for minor injuries.
On 20 Jul 07 three boys, ages eight, ten and
eleven, sustained burns when the eleven year old threw a spray
paint can into a fire of burning brush. The spray paint can
exploded while the three were standing ten feet away from the
fire, causing substantial burns. The eleven year old was transported
to Children’s Hospital in Columbus by helicopter while
the eight and ten year old were transported to the same by
emergency squad (1299).
LOCAL DENTIST ARRESTED FOR PURCHASING OXYCONTIN
Through information gained from informants Detectives of the
Major Crimes Task Force learned James E. Kirkpatrick II, age
44, 715 Florence Street, Belpre, was seeking to purchase Oxycontin
pills. Around 8 pm last night an undercover operative met with
Dr. Kirkpatrick at his residence, at which time Kirkpatrick
gave the operative $150 to deliver ten 20 mg Oxycontin pills
later in the evening. Kirkpatrick instructed the operative
to purchase the pills then to place them inside the tongue
of a boat trailer located around the corner from Kirkpatrick’s
residence on Fifth Street. As Detectives surveilled the trailer
they observed the operative place the drugs in the trailer
and watched as Kirkpatrick appeared, exited vehicle and reached
in the trailer’s tongue. At that time Detectives approached
and began to interview Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick stated the
trailer belonged to him and confessed that he purchased the
Oxycontin from the undercover operative for $150. Kirkpatrick
was arrested, transported to the Washington County Jail and
voluntarily relinquished his license to write prescriptions
for Schedule I, II, III, IV and V narcotics. Currently arrested
for a fifth degree felony charge of possession of a Schedule
II controlled substance, Kirkpatrick may face additional charges.
the Sheriff’s
Office received the following warrants:
William A. Abbott, age 35, 2165 Congress Road,
Belpre, for violating the terms of his probation by failing
to show proof of making $1,300 in restitution.
Sheldon D. Hill, age 24, 11827 State Route 555, Cuter, for
violating the terms of his probation by failing to pay his
fines in full.
Tracy L. Dailey, age 28, 2720 Lottridge Road, Guysville, for
violating the terms of her probation by failing to show proof
of obtaining a valid operator’s license.
Jason E. Milliron, age 22, 728 Second Street, Marietta, for
violating the terms of his probation by failing to show proof
of completing counseling and for failing to report to his probation
officer.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
James Dale Somerville, age 39, Dee Street Lot 9, Waverly,
WV, for theft, a misdemeanor. Somerville was arrested on Seventh
Street in Marietta by Patrolman Newell of the Marietta City
Police Department and was processed into the Washington County
Jail on 20 Jul 07 at 12:30 am.
Troy Eugene McKown, age 24, 165 Dodd Run Road, Marietta, for
OVI, a misdemeanor. McKown was arrested at his residence by
Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 20 Jul 07 at 1:10 am.
Larry Dale Haught Jr., age 46, 555 Dodd Run Road, Marietta,
for OVI and failure to signal, both misdemeanors. Haught was
arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 20 Jul 07 at 1:48 am.
Justin Lee Knight, age 18, 727 Greene Street, Marietta, for
underage consumption of alcohol and for obstructing official
business, both misdemeanors. Knight was arrested on Greene
Street in Marietta by Patrolman Chapman of the Marietta City
Police Department and was processed into the Washington County
Jail on 20 Jul 07 at 2:00 am.
Christopher C. Roberts, age 19, 5387 Oakvista Place, Dayton,
for disorderly conduct by intoxication, underage consumption
of alcohol and for obstructing official business, all misdemeanors.
Roberts was arrested on Greene Street in Marietta by Patrolman
Chapman of the Marietta City Police Department and was processed
into the Washington County Jail on 20 Jul 07 at 2:15 am.
Charlie Gilmore Johnson, age 51, Marietta,
for .17 breath OVI, for driving under an FRA suspended license
and for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, all misdemeanors. Johnson was arrested at Marietta Memorial
Hospital by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and was processed
into the Washington County Jail on 20 Jul 07 at 10:05 am.
Matthew Kevin Burke, age 36, 1416 Hocking Road, Belpre, for
contempt of a court order and for failure to appear at a court
ordered hearing on unpaid fines, both misdemeanors. Burke was
arrested in Little Hocking by Deputy Sheriff Smeeks and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 20 Jul 07 at 7:14 pm.
Zachary Lee Keylor, age 24, 1010 Fairground Street, Caldwell,
for failure to reinstate his operator’s license, a misdemeanor.
Keylor was arrested on Interstate 77 by the Ohio State Highway
Patrol and was processed into the Washington County Jail on
20 Jul 07 at 7:27 pm.
Adam Christopher Bean, age 21, 401 Second Street, Steelton,
PA, fort receiving stolen property, a felony. Bean was picked
up at the York County (PA) Prison by Deputy Sheriff Underwood
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 20 Jul 07
at 7:53 pm.
Amy Suzanne Farnsworth, age 21, 122 Harmar Street, Marietta,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Farnsworth was arrested at her residence
by Patrolman Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department
and was processed into the Washington County Jail on 20 Jul
07 at 9:50 pm.
