On 5 Jun 07 Deputy Sheriff Durham issued a
citation to William J. Hesson, age 45, 16785 County Nine Road,
Newport, for not using a turn signal and for not wearing a
seat belt. During the traffic stop Deputy Durham performed
a pat down for weapons on Mr. Hesson and located a pill bottle
containing four Vicodin and three Xanax pills. Therefore Deputy
Durham requested a summons for Mr. Hesson to appear in court
for possession of Schedule III and IV controlled substances.
The traffic stop occurred at the intersection of Greenwood
Street and Lauer Street in Newport Township.
On 5 Jun 07 Sgt. Brockmeier arrested Brian
K. Bunting, age 51, Belpre, for disorderly conduct by intoxication.
A previous guest at the Reno Motel, Mr. Bunting refused to
leave the hotel grounds and appeared highly intoxicated. Unable
to maintain his balance, Mr. Bunting was taken into custody
for his safety.
On 5 Jun 07 an employee of Par Mar #14, 66
Arrowhead Road, Little Hocking, reported he witnessed a customer
place an orange “Dukes of Hazzard” hat inside his
coat and leave the store without paying for it. This case remains
under investigation (592).
On 5 Jun 07 Darries G. Smith, age 66, 2195
Layman Road, Vincent, reported when his daughter awoke to dogs
barking at 2 am she noticed the patio furniture on their porch
was on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished, limiting damage
to the padding of the furniture. The State Fire Marshall’s
Office will conduct follow up on this investigation (1203).
MAJOR CRIMES TASK FORCE DRUG ARRESTS
On 5 Jun 07 the Major Crimes Task Force conducted
a round up of suspects in Athens County, most of whom were
from the Glouster area. Over the past several months Task Force
agents have been conducting a covert operation in the areas
of Glouster and Athens area. Culminating the operation, six
search warrants were executed and a total of seventeen people
were arrested today as a result of the combined effort of Task
Force agencies. Each of the fifteen suspects illegally sold
narcotics to undercover operatives on multiple occasions, sometimes
in the presence of children, resulting in first, second and
third degree felony charges. Two additional suspects not targeted
during undercover operations were arrested on narcotics related
charges as well. Two additional suspects remain at large and
will be arrested in the near future.
The Washington County Major Crimes Task Force is a multi-faceted
organization comprised of officers from the Athens, Morgan
and Washington County Sheriff’s Offices, the Athens,
Belpre and Marietta City Police Departments, the Athens and
Washington County Prosecutor’s Offices and the State
of Ohio’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification.
Also participating in the execution in the arrests were the
Ohio Highway Patrol and the Glouster and Jacksonville Police
Departments.

not on the list, but arrested on drug related charges.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Michael Adam Pickens, age 23, 511 Main Street,
Belpre, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Pickens was arrested
at his residence by Patrolman Davis of the Belpre City Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
5 Jun 07 at 8:30 am.
Jackie D. Buffington Jr., age 37, 20 Colegate Drive, Marietta,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Buffington was arrested
at his residence by Patrolman Heddleston of the Marietta City
Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 5 Jun 07 at 10:45 am.
Brian Keith Bunting, age 51, Belpre, for disorderly conduct
by intoxication, a misdemeanor. Bunting was arrested at the
Reno Motel by Sgt. Brockmeier of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 5 Jun
07 at 5:40 pm.
Charles Brian Davis, age 32, 145 Turkey Knob Road, Newport,
for being a repeat traffic offender and for having fictitious
plates, both misdemeanors. Davis was arrested on Turkey Knob
Road by Deputy Sheriff Morris and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 5 Jun 07 at 5:40 pm.
Matthew Lester Jones, age 22, 331 Muskingum Drive Apt. 2,
Marietta, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Jones was arrested
at his residence by Patrolman Huffman of the Marietta City
Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 5 Jun 07 at 10:07 pm.
Amber Lynn Feibel, age 30, 527 Main Street Apt. 5, Caldwell,
for OVI and for not maintaining assured clear distance, both
misdemeanors. Feibel was arrested in Beverly by Patrolman Sams
of the Beverly Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 5 Jun 07 at 11:46 pm.
