On 1 Jun 07 Lt. Wilson and Deputy Sheriffs
Eddy and Norman were dispatched to the scene of a knife assault
at 318 Main Street in New Matamoras. The victim, Josh Beaver,
age 27, 101 Evans Street Apt. B11, New Matamoras, informed
the responding Deputies he was in his parked vehicle speaking
to two individuals when Loyde R. Stalnaker, age 44, 314 Main
Street, New Matamoras, retrieved a lock blade pocketknife from
his residence. Mr. Beaver stated Mr. Stalnaker exclaimed he
wanted to cut his throat and he raised his arms to defend himself.
Sustaining several cuts to his arms, Mr. Beaver was able to
flee before suffering further injury. When interviewed, Mr.
Stalnaker revealed the location of the knife and stated he
grabbed the knife and some pepper spray from his house to confront
Mr. Beaver for calling him a name. Charged with felonious assault,
Mr. Stalnaker was transported to the Washington County Jail.
On 1 Jun 07 Ralph W. Morgenstern, age 64,
1350 Goose Run Road, Marietta, reported after contacting the
IRS he determined his tax refund check was stolen and later
cashed at Advantage Bank. This case remains under investigation
(1001).
On 1 Jun 07 William Allberry, age 27, 3265
Washington Street, Stockport, reported his 1983 Chevy truck
was stolen from the construction workers parking lot while
he worked at AEP that day. Mr. Allberry stated he left the
keys in the seat area of the truck and believes the thief would
sell the truck’s new parts. This case remains under investigation
(586).
On 1 Jun 07 Mike Wagner, age 41, 16650 State
Route 550, Marietta, reported in the early morning hours four
lawn ornaments were stolen from his yard and a catcher’s
glove, a dozen baseballs and two jerseys were stolen from his
unlocked vehicle. This case remains under investigation (586).
On 1 Jun 07 Deputy Sheriff Mankins issued
a citation to James D. Carpenter, age 36, 307 Fairview Lane,
Marietta, for driving with a temporary tag that expired 28
May 07. Deputy Mankins stopped Mr. Carpenter on Putnam Avenue
near Gilman Street in Marietta.
On 1 Jun 07 Deputy Sheriff Evans arrested
Paul F. Newbanks Jr., age 49, 7923 Veto Road, Belpre, for OVI.
A witness phoned in to report the vehicle he was following
crashed into a ditch on Braun Road and the driver left the
scene on foot, stating he did not want to get a DUI. Deputies
discovered Mr. Newbanks hiding in tall grass and administered
field sobriety tests. Following his poor performance on the
tests Mr. Newbanks was transported to the Washington County
Jail where he tested .196% BAC.
On 1 Jun 07 Deputy Sheriff Reynolds responded
to the scene of death of a fifty-eight year old Wingett Run
resident. The man’s death appears natural; no foul play
is suspected.
On 1 Jun 07 Deputy Sheriff Staats issued a
citation to Thomas E. Longfellow, age 37, 1785 Bender Road,
Marietta, for traveling 74 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputy Staats
stopped Mr. Longfellow on State Route 7 near milepost eleven
in Belpre Township.

Office received the following warrants:
Douglas L. Roser, age 42, 228 Pike Street
Apt. 7, Marietta, for contempt for failure to appear at a court
ordered hearing on unpaid fines in the sum of $445.90.
Douglas Snider, age 33, 110 Split Rock Drive, Marietta, for
failing to appear for a hearing on 18 May 07.
Darin S. Miller, age 30, 1185 Browns Road, Marietta, for failing
to appear for a debtor’s exam.
Fawn Miller, age 29, 1185 Browns Road, Marietta, for failing
to appear for a debtor’s exam.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Loyde Ramon Stalnaker, age 44, 314 Main Street, New Matamoras,
for felonious assault. Stalnaker was arrested at his residence
by Deputy Sheriff Norman and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 1 Jun 07 at 2:20 am.
Robert Christopher Toms, age 24, 418 George Street, Marietta,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Toms was arrested at the Double L in
Marietta by Patrolman Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 1 Jun 07 at
2:35 am.
Jason Scott Dotson, age 27, 697 Hill Road,
Cutler, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
Dotson was arrested at the office of Probation Officer Hamilton
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 1 Jun 07 at
10:00 am.
Nathan Wayne Davis, age 20, 263 Linton Road, Coolville, for
two felony counts of passing bad checks, for three misdemeanor
counts of bad passing bad checks and for a misdemeanor charge
of operating without a license. Davis was picked up at the
North Central Regional Jail in Greenwood, WV by Deputy Sheriff
O’Brien and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 1 Jun 07 at 3:00 pm.
John Peter Nichols, age 42, 300 Alderman Street Lot 5, Marietta,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Nichols was arrested at his residence
by Patrolman Arbaugh of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 1 Jun 07 at
4:30 pm.
Brandon Joseph West, age 25, 405 Strawberry Lane Apt. C, New
Philadelphia, for being a fugitive from justice and for a misdemeanor
charge of operating without or with an expired license. West
was arrested near milepost four on Interstate 77 by Deputy
Sheriff Morris and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 1 Jun 07 at 7:00 pm.
Paul Franklin Newbanks Jr., age 49, 7923 Veto Road, Belpre,
for OVI, a misdemeanor. Newbanks was arrested on Braun Road
in Belpre by Deputy Sheriff Evans and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 1 Jun 07 at 11:55 pm.
