On 13 Apr 07 Deputy Sheriff Mankins conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle he observed traveling left of center
in the vicinity of Third and Washington Streets. Deputy Mankins
identified the driver as Sterling Roberts, age 24, 3295 Penewit
Road, Springboro, OH, and learned he had a suspended license.
Noticing an open can of beer in the hand of passenger Christopher
L. Goss, age 22, 845 County House Lane, Marietta, Deputy Mankins
seized the alcohol and asked Mr. Goss to exit the vehicle.
As he exited Mr. Goss nearly fell over, prompting Deputy Mankins
to arrest him for disorderly conduct by intoxication. As he
patted down Mr. Goss, Deputy Mankins observed Mr. Roberts exit
the vehicle and flee on foot. After transporting Mr. Goss to
the Washington County Jail Deputy Mankins requested a warrant
for Mr. Roberts for obstructing official business.
On 13 Apr 07 Michael D. Metzler, age 24, 227
Cozy Glen Road, Oak Hill, OH, who is an inmate in the Washington
County Jail, was charged with assault by Corrections Sgt. Carr.
Upset that Mr. Metzler was making noise during designated quiet
time and fearing their dorm would lose privileges as a result,
Cory Thomas, age 20, 1202 Colonial Drive, Marietta, told him
to quiet down. Mr. Metzler took offense to Mr. Thomas’ rebuke,
walked over to Mr. Thomas and punched him twice in the face
as he lay in his bunk.
On 13 Apr 07 Lt. Wilson and Deputy Sheriff
Staats assisted Patrolman Chapman of the Marietta City Police
Department in recovering a purse a female said was in the possession
of a guest at the Lafayette Hotel. The officers identified
the guest as William E. Davis, age 51, of 460 Raccoon Road,
Youngstown and interviewed him at his room. Smelling an odor
of burnt marijuana, the officers were given permission by Mr.
Davis to search his room. The search yielded a half-smoked
marijuana blunt in a dresser as well as a Beretta handgun in
a suitcase. While patting down Mr. Davis for weapons, Deputy
Staats found in Mr. Davis’ back pocket two small bags
of suspected cocaine and two straws containing cocaine residue.
As a result, Deputy Staats arrested Mr. Davis for possessing
less than five grams of cocaine and transported him to the
Washington County Jail.
On 13 Apr 07 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued
a citation to Michelle R. Yannuzzi, age 18, 2625 Glenchester
Road, Wexford, PA, for traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputy
Smeeks stopped Ms. Yannuzzi near milepost eleven on State Route
7 in Warren Township.
On 13 Apr 07 Deputy Sheriff Evans issued minor
misdemeanor citations to Sean Holdren, age 18, 3906 Veto Road,
Vincent, and Nathan Goddard, age 18, 110 Howard Street, Marietta,
for disorderly conduct by fighting. Mr. Holdren and Mr. Goddard
were part of a larger group including four seventeen year old
and one sixteen year old Marietta residents who gathered at
the Marietta soccer fields for what they called “fight
night.” When Deputy Evans arrived at the scene he observed
the suspects circled around two suspects fighting in the center.
Deputy Evans requested summonses for the five juveniles to
appear in Juvenile Court for delinquency by disorderly conduct.
On 13 Apr 07 James H. Hill, age 48, 112 Lawrence
Street, Marietta, reported while he was at work that day his
son’s BMX-style bike was stolen off the front porch of
his residence. This case remains under investigation (1184).
On 13 Apr 07 an employee of the Outskirts
Lounge, 20825 State Route 550, Marietta, reported sometime
since the business closed earlier that morning an unknown suspect(s)
forcibly entered via the back door, ransacked the office and
pried open padlocked file cabinets. Stolen items include a
large sum of cash, payroll checks and business checks. This
case remains under investigation (586).
On 13 Apr 07 a forty-nine year old Cutler
resident reported his twelve year old granddaughter, of whom
he and his wife have custody, has run away from home during
the past two weeks and also stole a diamond ring belonging
to another family member. The juvenile’s plan to sell
the ring was foiled by a friend’s mother after she told
the friend to hold it for safekeeping and told her mother.
Deputy Sheriff Sirianni recovered the ring and requested a
summons for the twelve year old to appear in Juvenile Court
for delinquency by theft.

were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Carol Lynn Alsept, age 45, 3570 Oak Hill Road, Stockport,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Alsept was arrested at
her residence by Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 13 Apr 07 at 12:09 am.
Noah Brooks Bird, age 25, 811 Victoria Avenue, Williamstown,
for OVI, a misdemeanor. Bird was arrested on Greene Street
in Marietta by Patrolman Arbaugh of the Marietta City Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
13 Apr 07 at 3:42 am.
Christopher Lee Goss, age 22, 845 County House Lane, Marietta,
for disorderly conduct by intoxication, a misdemeanor. Goss
was arrested on Greene Street in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff
Mankins and processed into the Washington County Jail on 13
Apr 07 at 4:01 am.
William Earl Davis, age 51, 460 Raccoon Road, Youngstown,
for possession of drugs, a felony. Davis was arrested at the
Lafayette Hotel by Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 13 Apr 07 at 5:01 am.
Christopher Lee Goss, age 22, 819 Ridge Street,
Marietta, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Goss was arrested
at his residence by Patrolman Hilverding of the Marietta City
Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 13 Apr 07 at 5:30 pm.
Darren Michael Edwards, age 40, 17991 State Route 26, Reno,
for possession of drugs, a felony. Edwards was arrested at
Kelley Tires by Deputy Sheriff Evans and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 13 Apr 07 at 8:05 pm.
Jeffrey Elliott Taylor, age 44, 209 Jet Star Road, Hockingport,
for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor. Taylor
was picked up in Hockingport by Deputy Sheriff Sirianni and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 13 Apr 07 at 9:02
pm.
