On 24 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff Rhodes issued a citation to Michael C. Ayers, age 46, 775 Turkey Hollow Road, Cutler, for driving under an OVI suspended license. Deputy Rhodes stopped Mr. Ayers on Turkey Hollow Road at Welch Road in Decatur Township.

On 24 Feb 07 Alexis Bigley, age 29, 801 Washington Run, Murraysville, WV, reported it appears that thieves attempted to steal a boat motor off her vacationing father’s pontoon boat at 4220 Welch Road, Little Hocking. Unsuccessful at removing the motor, the thieves caused damage while trying to remove it. This case remains under investigation (586).

On 24 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff Spencer arrested Steven M. Pierce Jr., age 18, 12500 State Route 690, Athens, and Hank A. Wells, age 19, 9299 State Route 555, Cutler, for underage possession of alcohol. Stopping the vehicle Mr. Pierce was driving for having suspicious blue lights, Deputy Spencer noticed an open bottle of Budweiser on the passenger side floorboard and the remains of a twelve pack of beer conspicuously hidden under a coat. Though the two initially denied knowledge of the alcohol, Mr. Pierce later admitted asking his cohort to hide the beer when he realized they were being stopped. Mr. Pierce and Mr. Wells were transported to and subsequently released from the Washington County Jail.

On 24 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff Staats issued a citation to Derek K. Waits, age 25, 205 Ryder Avenue, Clarksburg, WV, for traveling 77 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputy Staats stopped Mr. Waits on State Route 7 near milepost thirty-five in Newport Township.

On 24 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff Staats arrested Eric E. Luke, age 20, 309 Lord Street, Marietta, for driving under a drug offense suspended license and for having fictitious plates. Deputy Staats stopped Mr. Luke on County House Lane for not having a front license plate and found the vehicle tag was registered to another vehicle. Also charged as a result of the stop was a sixteen year old Marietta resident. Asked to identify herself, the juvenile provided false information and will be summonsed to Juvenile Court for being delinquent.

On 24 Feb 07 Daniel J. Turner, age 46, 9383 Veto Road, Belpre, reported sometime since midnight an unknown suspect(s) broke the passenger side window of his truck and stole his AM/FM CD player. This case remains under investigation (200).

On 24 Feb 07 Clifford Winstanley, age 79, 215 Caywood Road, Marietta, reported he believed his grandson Jeffrey Braun, age 22, 106 Riley Drive Apt. 4, Marietta, stole a Ruger pistol from his bedroom. Mr. Winstanley stated another of his grandchildren informed him that Mr. Braun bragged about stealing the gun and was going to sell it for drug money. Once he confirmed the account of Mr. Winstanley’s grandchild, Deputy Sheriff Collins requested a warrant for Mr. Braun for a felony charge of theft.

The following individuals were processed into the Washington County Jail:

Rodney Allen Nichols, age 38, 200 Pennock Drive Lot 4, Beverly, for failure to reinstate his operator’s license and for domestic violence, both misdemeanors. Nichols was arrested on State Route 60 in Beverly by Patrolman Sams of the Beverly Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 12:20 am.

Steven Matthew Pierce Jr., age 18, 12500 State Route 690, Athens, for underage consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor. Pierce was arrested in Barlow by Deputy Sheriff Spencer and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 3:10 am.

Misty Sue Perry, age 23, 1464 Calder Ridge Road, Belpre, for felonious assault. Perry was arrested on Pike Street in Marietta by Patrolman Arbaugh of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 3:16 am.

Hank Allan Wells, age 19, 9299 State Route 555, Cutler, for underage consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor. Wells was arrested on State Route 339 in Barlow by Deputy Sheriff Spencer and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 3:43 am.

Roger Dean Clevenger, age 46, 19483 Clifton Hill Road, Macksburg, for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. Clevenger was arrested on Front Street in Marietta by Patrolman Nedeff of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 4:30 am.

Nicholas Bruce Swanson, age 23, 34658 County Road 142, Fairview, MT, for criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct by intoxication and menacing by stalking, all misdemeanors. Swanson was arrested at Marietta Hall by Officer Ruble of the Marietta College Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 5:25 am.

Brenda Joyce Hinkle, age 41, 1049 Harman Avenue Apt. B61, Columbus, for violating the terms of her probation, a felony. Hinkle was arrested at her residence by Deputy Sheriff Mankins and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 11:03 am.

Eric Ellis Luke, age 20, 309 Lord Street, Marietta, for driving under a suspended license and for having fictitious plates, both misdemeanors. Luke was arrested on County House Lane by Deputy Sheriff Staats and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 4:21 pm.

Kenneth Dwight Phillis, age 40, 20475 State Route 60, Beverly, for a felony charge of rape and a misdemeanor charge of assault. Phillis was arrested at his residence by Detective Smithberger of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 5:55 pm.

Christopher M. Wolfe, age 29, 1323 40th Street, Parkersburg, for driving under a suspended license, a misdemeanor. Wolfe was arrested on Interstate 77 by Deputy Sheriff Collins and processed into the Washington County Jail on 24 Feb 07 at 10:43 pm.
