On 4 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriffs Morris and Smeeks
investigated a two vehicle collision that occurred on the northbound
side of State Route 7 near the Interstate 77 off ramp. Michael
A. Durham, age 41, 4650 Sandhill Road, Marietta, was traveling
in the right hand lane when James F. Fenton, age 22, 816 Columbia
Avenue, Williamstown, traveled to the right of the lane divider,
struck the rear of Mr. Durham’s vehicle and spun it to
the middle of the bridge. Mr. Durham’s Buick Century
and Mr. Fenton’s Chevy 1500 both sustained non-functional
damage, while neither party reported injuries. While speaking
to Mr. Fenton Deputy Morris noticed an odor of alcohol. Mr.
Fenton admitted consuming alcohol and performed poorly on field
sobriety tests. Arrested for OVI and for making an improper
lane change, Mr. Fenton tested .116% BAC when transported to
the Washington County Jail.
On 4 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff McLeish issued
a citation to Levi G. Boice, age 25, 20943 State Route 676,
Marietta, for passing on a double yellow line. Deputy McLeish
stopped Mr. Boice on State Route 676 near milepost twenty-three
in Warren Township.
On 4 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff Evans responded
to the scene of death of an eighty-two year old New Matamoras
resident. The man’s death appears natural; no foul play
is suspected.
On 4 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff Evans arrested
Travis W. Smitley, age 24, 1975 Newells Run Road, Newport,
for OVI. Stopped for not using a turn signal and spinning his
tires when turning from Greene Street onto Seventh Street,
Mr. Smitley heavily slurred his speech and had a strong odor
of alcohol. Mr. Smitley also admitted consuming four or five
beers and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. When transported
to the Washington County Jail, Mr. Smitley tested .231% BAC.
On 4 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued a
citation to William T. Bergstein, age 21, 5 ½ Palmer
Street, Athens, for traveling 84 mph in a 60 mph zone. Deputy
Smeeks stopped Mr. Bergstein on US 50 near Arrowhead Road in
Belpre Township.
On 4 Feb 07 Deputy Sheriff Smeeks issued a
citation to Michael T. Roush, age 18, 163 Lynn Drive, New Haven,
WV, for traveling 80 mph in a 60 mph zone. Deputy Smeeks stopped
Mr. Roush on US 50 near milepost seven in Belpre Township.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Travis Wood Smitley, age 24, 1975 Newells Run Road, Newport,
for OVI, a misdemeanor. Smitley was arrested near the intersection
of Phillips and Greene Street in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff
Evans and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Feb
07 at 2:55 am.
Jared Anthony Roberts, age 21, 780 Greene Street, Marietta,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Roberts was at his residence
by Patrolman Blasko of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Feb 07 at
6:45 am.
David Ralph Arnold, age 52, 121 Clark Street, Marietta, for
domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Arnold was arrested at his
residence by Patrolman Williams of the Marietta City Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
4 Feb 07 at 10:25 pm.
Beamond Lee Thompson, age 25, 50 Millers Lane, Marietta, for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines,
a misdemeanor. Thompson was arrested on State Route 7 by Deputy
Sheriff Durham and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 4 Feb 07 at 10:40 pm.
