On 18 Jul 06 Irene Baker, age 39, 272 Vickers
Road, Marietta, reported she was the victim of domestic violence
at the hands of her husband Bryan, age 43, on 8 Jul 06. Mrs.
Baker detailed that her husband angered at her seemingly innocuous
request that he assist in preparing the children for bed and
that he slapped her while she brushed a child’s teeth.
During a discussion that followed Mr. Baker threatened to shoot
his wife and unplugged a cordless phone to forbid his wife
from calling for help. As a result, Deputy Sheriff Stackpole
requested a summons for Mr. Baker for domestic violence.
On 18 Jul 06 Virginia Helm, age 39, 108 Howard
Street, Marietta, reported after initially speaking to her
ex-husband, who visited her home to check on the couple’s
children while she was at work, he phoned her again to say
he just hurled a cordless telephone through her front window.
Ms. Helm stated she believes her ex-husband threw the phone
because she claimed during the previous conversation that he
had no proclivity toward caring for their children. This case
remains under investigation (905, 1001).
On 18 Jul 06 Deputy Sheriff Mankins investigated
a dispute involving Tracy L. Walker, age 33, 2834 Sealy Ridge
Road, Vincent, and her husband Michael, age 29. Confronted
by his wife over an issue sexual in nature, Mr. Walker exited
their residence and started punching the windows of a van.
Mrs. Walker tried to intervene but her actions seemed to exacerbate
her husband’s rage. Mr. Walker then forced his wife up
against another vehicle and punched her twice before a neighbor
interrupted the assault. The Belpre Police Department later
located Mr. Walker and held him until the Sheriff’s Office
arrived to transport him to the Washington County Jail.
COUPLE CHARGED AFTER
FALSE ACCUSATION
(see below)
Despite earlier reports he was allegedly stabbed and assaulted
by two black males from Columbus, Steven Hawver, age 43, 836
Pike Street Apt. 24, Marietta, recanted his story when Detectives
confronted him with a number of inconsistencies revealed under
repeated questioning. Thereafter the Detectives determined
that the stabbing actually occurred at Mr. Hawver’s residence
on Sunday evening and that the assailant was in fact his live-in
girlfriend Veronica Thorn, age 50. Mr. Hawver further detailed
that Ms. Thorn became flustered with his increasing sexual
advances and stabbed him with a 12 inch butcher knife to cease
his actions. The two then hid the knife along with a bloody
towel and fabricated a story in an effort to avoid implication
in a crime. As a result, Mr. Hawver is being charged with falsification,
a first degree misdemeanor and Ms. Thorn with felonious assault.
Ms. Thorn has fled the area and a warrant has been issued for
her arrest.
