On 6 May 06 Deputy Sheriff Rhodes investigated
a report disclosed by the staff of Marietta Memorial Hospital
of a fourteen year old with a BB under the skin of his forehead.
Deputy Rhodes concluded the juvenile inadvertently wounded
himself when a pellet he shot at a soda can ricocheted off
fire pit stone. Hospital staff deemed the juvenile’s
injury as minor.
On 6 May 06 Deputy Sheriff Evans conducted
a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to stop when turning
from Snearly Drive onto State Route 60. Detecting an odor of
alcohol, Deputy Evans administered field sobriety tests on
Jeffrey R. Burton, age 42, 120 Snearly Drive, Marietta, with
poor results. While arresting Mr. Burton for OVI, Deputy Evans
located a half consumed bottle of beer in the vehicle resulting
in an additional charge of consuming alcohol in a vehicle.
After being transported to the jail the OVI charge on Mr. Burton
was nixed when a breathalyzer test returned results less than
.08.
On 6 May 06 Sgt. Hiatt issued a citation to
Michele L. Snodgrass, age 30, 120 Dawes Circle, Marietta, for
operating with expired tags. Sgt. Hiatt stopped Ms. Snodgrass
on Gilman Avenue at Walnut Street in Pioneer Township.
On 6 May 06 Deputy Sheriff Morris responded
to a disturbance at Dino’s Pizza, State Route 60, Lowell.
The business’s owner reported an intoxicated subject,
later identified as Roger D. Clevenger, age 45, 19483 Clifton
Hill Road, Macksburg, was banging on the front door of the
business. When Deputy Morris arrived he noticed Mr. Clevenger
slurred his speech and was unsteady on his feet. Due to Mr.
Clevenger’s disruptions at that and another business,
Deputy Morris arrested him for disorderly conduct by intoxication
and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
On 6 May 06 Velinda K. Berga, age 28, 425
Dodd Run Road, Marietta, reported $887 was stolen from her
purse. Ms. Berga informed Deputy Sheriff Mankins that she placed
her purse on the roof of her car and she observed it fall into
the middle of State Route 550 as she accelerated from a stop
at Dodd Run Road. Before she could reverse direction to retrieve
her purse an individual driving a Chevy truck picked it up
and drove off. Through the Chevy’s license plate number
Deputy Mankins identified the culprit as Robert F. Heeter,
age 54, 312 Harmar Street, Marietta. Confronted with eyewitness
testimony, Mr. Heeter admitted taking the cash from the purse
and spending a portion of the money at Advance Auto Parts.
He also stated he would return the unused money along with
the portion of spent money with that from his own bank account.
Despite Mr. Heeter making restitution, Deputy Mankins sent
forth this case to the Prosecutor’s Office for grand
jury consideration.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Michael Shawn Williams, age 29, 3995 Pleasant
Ridge Road, Marietta, for failure to appear at a court ordered
hearing on unpaid fines, a misdemeanor. Williams was arrested
on Third Street in Marietta by Patrolman McCracken of the Marietta
City Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 6 May 06 at 12:18 am.
Richard Alan Mowrer, age 37, 4394 Overton
Road, Wooster, OH, for .17 breath OVI and driving outside the
marked lanes of travel, both misdemeanors. Mowrer was arrested
on Interstate 77 by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 6 May 06 at 2:45 pm.
Matthew Twain Berga, age 28, 914 Warren Street,
Marietta, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Berga was arrested
at his residence by Sgt. Hiatt of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 6 May
06 at 5:45 pm.
Andy Wayne Monk, age 47, 700 Madison Street,
Nelsonville, OH, for receiving stolen property, a felony. Monk
was arrested in Marietta by Patrolman Blasko of the Marietta
City Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 6 May 06 at 6:22 pm.
Jeffrey Robert Burton, age 42, 120 Snearly
Drive, Marietta, for consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle,
a misdemeanor. Burton was arrested on State Route 60 by Deputy
Sheriff Evans and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 6 May 06 at 6:35 pm.
Roger Dean Clevenger, age 45, 19483 Clifton
Hill Road, Macksburg, for disorderly conduct by intoxication,
a misdemeanor. Clevenger was arrested in Lowell by Deputy Sheriff
Morris and processed into the Washington County Jail on 6 May
06 at 11:39 pm.
