open can of beer on the floorboard of the vehicle, Deputy Spencer
administered field sobriety tests. Following Mr. Day’s

to the Washington County Jail.
On 27 Dec 05 an employee of White Oak Dental,

of threats and the roles of each party in the dispute, Deputy
Mankins requested summonses for Mr. and Mrs. Caplinger for

Two Arrested for Sale of Drugs within
1000 feet of a school
On 27 Dec 05 members of the Washington County
Major Crimes Task Force arrested Richard Thompson, age 42,
1101 Colonial Drive, Marietta, and Amy Thompson, age 36, 1101
Cisler Lane, Marietta, for their involvement in narcotics trafficking
operation. The arrests are the culmination of an investigation
during which a confidential informant purchased fifty-five
one milligram Klonopin tablets and nineteen forty milligram
Oxycontin tablets from Ms. Thompson and Mr. Thompson, respectively.
Also during the investigation, Detectives executed search warrants
at Thompson’s residences on 20 December 05 and recovered
a number of items leading them to believe the Thompsons were
selling drugs in exchange for property that had been stolen
during house burglaries and from local area merchants.
Klonopin is a Schedule IV controlled substance
and Oxycontin a Schedule II controlled substance, the sales
of both of which are second degree felonies. But because Colonial
Terrace Apartments are within 1,000 feet of a school, the severity
of the offense escalates to a first degree felony, punishable
by three to ten years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
The Washington County Major Crimes Task Force
is a multi-faceted organization consisting of members of the
Marietta and Belpre City Police Departments, the Ohio Bureau
of Criminal Investigation and Identification, the Department
of Public Safety Investigation Unit, the Washington County
Prosecutor’s Office and the Washington and Morgan County
Sheriff’s Offices. The Thompsons are being held in the
Washington County Jail without bond until their appearance
in Marietta Municipal Court on Wednesday morning.
