On 15 Nov 05 Sgt. Gherke met with Starla L.
Burris, age 30, 718 McGill Road, Vincent, at the Sheriff’s
Office concerning a domestic dispute with her husband Earl,
age 33, that transpired earlier in the evening. Mrs. Burris
stated after she explained a homework problem to her stepdaughter
her husband asked her to solve several problems to show the
teenager how it is done. Mrs. Burris declined, claiming if
she solved the problem her stepdaughter would not learn. Angered
at this, Mr. Burris slapped his wife and pulled the phone off
the wall, causing his wife to be in fear for her safety. Sgt.
Gherke traveled to the residence to arrest Mr. Burris for domestic
violence, but since Mr. Burris was absent Sgt. Gherke requested
a warrant for his arrest.

The morning of 15 Nov 05 Deputies and Detectives
responded to a burglary in progress at 115 Holiday Drive. One
of the home’s occupants informed the responding officers
he was awakened by the sound of a dog barking and the odor
of cigarette smoke. The subject was then observed by a neighbor
fleeing the scene in the direction of Sandhill Road. After
recovering the purse and its contents, less the cash inside,
Detectives also learned of a burglary at 121 Sanjubar Drive
and developed Robert
W. Strother,
age 26, 26935 State Route 7 Apt. 5B, Marietta, as a suspect.
Detectives obtained and executed a search
warrant on Mr. Strother’s residence later in the day
and recovered items positively linking him to the burglaries
he was suspected of perpetrating this morning. Waiving his
Miranda Rights, Mr. Strother admitted to Detectives that he
was responsible for the two burglaries on this date, at least
two other home invasions as well as a number of incidences
when he stole items from unlocked vehicles in the area.
Strother is currently being held at the Washington
County Jail pending his initial court appearance on two second
degree felony charges of burglary. Evidence of further burglaries
and/or thefts committed by Mr. Strother will be forwarded to
the Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury consideration.
