On 12 Sep 05 Detective Tilton received a call
from Matthew S. Nixon, age 23, 26115 State Route 7, Marietta,
stating Charles E. Haught III, age 21, 717 Greene Street, Marietta,
and three other individuals came to his residence and Mr. Haught
threatened to kill him. Once Detective Tilton was on the scene
witnesses informed him they heard Mr. Haught threaten to kill
Mr. Nixon because he is a witness in the criminal proceeding
against Jessica Mantz, a friend of Mr. Haught. Though Mr. Haught
denied the allegation, Detective Tilton arrested him for retaliation
and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
On 12 Sep 05 Deputy Sheriffs Summers and Spencer
responded to a disturbance in Juvenile Court after proceedings
ceased. A seventeen year old female became irate at the disposition
of her case and began swearing and upending furniture in the
courtroom. The tirade caused extensive damage to a microphone,
a chair and wall in the courtroom. The juvenile was removed
and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center pending further
charges.
On 12 Sep 05 an employee of Par Mar, 17785
State Route 7, Marietta, reported the driver of a maroon Chevy
Blazer drove off without paying for fifty-one dollars in gasoline.
This case remains under investigation (232).
On 12 Sep 05 the principal of Waterford High
School reported being informed by a teacher that he found on
a student, two cigarettes and a lighter. When questioned, the
fifteen year old admitted the items belonged to him and that
he also smoked a cigarette earlier that morning. As a result,
Deputy Sheriff Coppernoll requested a summons for the juvenile
for being delinquent.
On 12 Sep 05 Timothy J. Zdrale, age 56, 505
Chamberlain Drive, Marietta, reported after he was duped into
providing his personal information by a fraudulent email from
paypal.com, his account was used to make several purchases
on eBay. This case was forwarded to another agency for further
investigation (945).
On 12 Sep 05 Deputy Sheriff Rhodes stopped
a vehicle for following another vehicle too closely on Interstate
77. Conducting a pat down for weapons after the Marietta City
Police Department’s K-9 indicated the presence of drugs
in the vehicle, Deputy Norman found a marijuana pipe in the
pocket of Scott H. Flanders, age 39, 1071 Poplar Road, Hattiesburg,
MS. Mr. Flanders then admitted additional drugs were present
in the vehicle, namely a tin containing crystal meth and marijuana
as well as a light bulb used to smoke the crystal meth. Therefore,
Deputy Rhodes arrested Mr. Flanders for possession of drugs
and drug paraphernalia and transported him to the Washington
County Jail.
On 12 Sep 05 Deputy Sheriffs Evans and Spencer
began an investigation into the thefts of items from vehicles
belonging to Steven D. Hedrick, age 38, 2478 Waterford Road,
Marietta, and Timothy M. Mullen, age 31, 106 Grayling Drive,
Marietta. Stolen items include portable CD players, loose change,
sunglasses, CD’s, Snap-On tools, a cordless drill and
a tent.
On 12 Sep 05 Sgt. Gherke investigated a two
vehicle crash in the parking lot of Barlow-Vincent Elementary
School. As Corrine S. Rinehart, age 47, 304 Waverly Road, Williamstown,
traveled through the marked lanes of the parking lot, Terri
J. Dowler, age 45, 7308 Veto Road, Belpre, crossed a row of
parked cars and failing to yield, pulled out in front of Ms.
Rinehart. Damage to the front left fender of Ms. Rinehart’s
Geo Prism was light and nonfunctional while Ms. Dowler’s
Ford Windstar sustained light, functional damage to the driver’s
side door. No injuries were reported.
On 12 Sep 05 Betty Lewis, age 79, 2117 Murray
Street, Belpre, reported two diamond rings were stolen from
a dish in her bathroom between 12:30 pm Sunday and 1 pm Monday.
This case remains under investigation (586).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Donald William Carpenter, age 44, 105 Gilman
Street Lot 5, Marietta, for a felony charge of OVI and for
misdemeanor charges of driving under an OVI suspended license
and of not using his headlights. Carpenter was arrested in
Marietta by Patrolman Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Sep 05
at 2:44 am.
Clay David Knox, age 21, 1041 Echo Street, Malta, for contempt
of a court order, a felony. Knox was arrested at his residence
by Sgt. Hiatt of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 12 Sep 05
at 3:11 am.
Kenneth Dwayne Varnado Jr., age 19, 1420 Braun Road, Belpre,
for a felony charge of failure to comply with the order/signal
of an officer and for misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed
weapon, criminal damaging/endangering, OVI, speeding, driving
under a suspended license and eight counts of failing to obey
the right of way. Varnado was arrested in Belpre by Patrolman
Davis of the Belpre City Police Department and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 12 Sep 05 at 3:54 am.
Scott Howard Flanders, age 39, 1071 Poplar
Road, Hattiesburg, MS, for a felony charge of possession of
drugs and misdemeanor charges of possession of drugs and possession
of drug paraphernalia. Flanders was arrested on Interstate
77 by Deputy Sheriff Rhodes and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 12 Sep 05 at 12:30 pm.
Cheyenne Lezjames Mantz, age 24, 829 Ridge Street, Marietta,
for three misdemeanor counts of endangering children. Mantz
was arrested at his residence by Detective Tilton of the Washington
County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 12 Sep 05 at 3:00 pm.
David Everett Loeser, age 43, 7025 Wilson Mills Road, Gates
Mills, OH, for possession of drug paraphernalia and for possession
of drugs, both misdemeanors. Loeser was arrested on Interstate
77 by Deputy Sheriff Evans and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 12 Sep 05 at 3:20 pm.
Misty Dawn Antill, age 21, 111 Faye Avenue, Marietta, for
driving under an FRA suspended license, a misdemeanor. Antill
was picked up at the Monroe County line by Patrolman Warden
of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 12 Sep 05 at 11:00 pm.
