On 6 Aug 05 James M. Mills, age 77, 197 Firehouse
Road, Lowell, reported in May of this year a generator was
stolen from his barn and over a two day span around August
1st a farm gate along Duck Creek Road on his property was totally
destroyed. This case remains under investigation (1203).
On 6 Aug 05 Deputy Sheriff Evans responded
to the scene of a casualty at 2460 Huck Road, Lowell. The Oak
Grove Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene treating John
H. Newlon, age 61, for injuries he received when his tractor
rolled on him as he climbed a hill. Mr. Newlon was later life-flighted
to Grant Medical Center for further treatment.
On 6 Aug 05 an employee of Warren Local Schools
reported the previous evening, unknown suspect(s) broke into
both Barlow-Vincent Elementary School and Warren High School.
The perpetrators then damaged four snack machines and two soft
drink machines while accessing the cash and coins contained
inside. This case remains under investigation (602).
On 6 Aug 05 Deputy Sheriffs Smithberger and
Rhodes conducted a traffic stop on State Route 7 after observing
the vehicle they were following travel left of center on three
occasions. When so inquired, Michael B. Smith, age 48, 204
South Bradfield Drive, St Marys, admitted consuming four beers
at a friend’s home in New Matamoras. Following his poor
performance on field sobriety tests, Deputy Smithberger arrested
Mr. Smith for OVI and for driving left of center and transported
him to the Washington County Jail.
On 6 Aug 05 Deputy Sheriff Parks interdicted
a domestic dispute at 216 Third Street, Lowell. When he arrived,
Lucas W. Wharton, age 26, informed Deputy Parks he and his
live-in girlfriend Tara Ramsey, age 24, engaged in a shoving
match after an argument, during which time Ms. Ramsey picked
up a baseball bat and hit him several times in the arm. Soon
thereafter Ms. Ramsey arrived on scene, visibly beaten, with
blood running from her nose and a cut lip. She dictated that
Mr. Wharton pinned her on the floor and repeatedly hit her,
forcing her to reach for the baseball bat and hit him in order
to cease Mr. Wharton’s onslaught. Based on his investigation,
Deputy Parks arrested Mr. Wharton for domestic violence and
transported him to the Washington County Jail.
On 6 Aug 05 while on patrol on state Route
7, Deputy Sheriffs Smithberger and Rhodes noticed the driver
of a green SUV swerving in its lane and crossing white lane
markers. Conducting a traffic stop, Deputy Smithberger noted
the driver of the SUV, Chyrese M. McWhirter, age 40, 95 Robinson
Lane, Marietta, had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred her
speech. Subsequent to her poor performance on field sobriety
tests, Deputy Smithberger arrested Ms. McWhirter for OVI and
transported her to the Washington County Jail.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Michael Robert Smith, age 48, 204 Bradfield
Drive, St Marys, for .08 breath OVI and for driving left of
center, both misdemeanors. Smith was arrested near milepost
thirty-nine on State Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff Smithberger
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 6 Aug 05 at
2:00 am.
Matthew Sanford Nixon, age 23, 26115 State Route 7, Marietta,
for operating without a license, a misdemeanor. Nixon was arrested
on Greene Street by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 6 Aug 05 at 3:15 am.
Chyrese Marie McWhirter, age 40, 95 Robinson Lane, Marietta,
for .17 breath OVI, a misdemeanor. McWhirter was arrested Reynolds
Run Road in Newport by Deputy Sheriff Smithberger and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 6 Aug 05 at 4:30 am.
Lucas William Wharton, age 26, 216 Third Street, Lowell, for
domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Wharton was arrested at his
residence by Deputy Sheriff Parks and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 6 Aug 05 at 6:50 am.
Victor George Smith, age 57, 750 Smith Road, Waterford, for
failure to appear, a misdemeanor. Smith was arrested at his
residence by Sgt. Hiatt at the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and was processed into the Washington County Jail on
6 Aug 05 at 10:50 am.
Mark Allen Patterson, age 51, 2035 23rd Street, Canton, for
driving under an FRA suspended license and for failure to obey
the right of way, both misdemeanors. Patterson was arrested
on State Route 339 by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 6 Aug 05 at 9:10 pm.
Jessica Lynn Stevens, age 24, 610 ½ Second Street,
Marietta, for OVI, for driving under a suspended license and
for speeding, all misdemeanors. Stevens was arrested in Marietta
by Deputy Sheriff Rhodes and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 6 Aug 05 at 9:45 pm.
