On 30 Jun 05 Sgt. Gherke investigated a report
concerning an unclothed child playing unattended around a house
at 435 Calder Ridge Road, Belpre. When he arrived the two or
three year old boy hid behind a dog kennel while a boxer-type
dog commenced barking and would not allow him to come near
the child. Unable to catch the child as he ran around the rear
of the house, the child and dog entered the home and closed
the door behind them. Sgt. Gherke finally identified the boy’s
mother, Mary Wilson, age 24, who refused to speak with him
on the advice of her attorney. Mrs. Wilson’s husband
arrived later and allowing to Sgt. Gherke to survey the premises,
made a safety plan with him for the child. As a result of her
actions Sgt. Gherke requested a warrant for Mrs. Wilson for
child endangerment, the second such charge in as many months.
