On 18 Jun 05 Deputy Sheriff Malone responded to the scene of the death of an eighty-five year old Belpre resident. The woman’s death appears to be natural, no foul play is suspected.

On 18 Jun 05 Melody Evans, age 38, 3719 Blue Knob Road, Marietta, reported between 10 am and 9 pm that day her fourteen inch savannah monitor lizard was stolen from her former residence at 165 Killwell Run Road, Marietta. This case remains under investigation (945).

On 18 Jun 05, after stopping a vehicle on State Route 7 for driving left of center, Deputy Sheriff Mankins noticed an odor of alcohol on the passenger, Eric E. Vereeken, age 26, 6168 64th Avenue, Hudsonville, MI. Asked if he had an open container, Mr. Vereeken first said no but recanted when an open can of Sparks beer was found during a search of the vehicle. As a result Deputy Mankins arrested Mr. Vereeken for consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle and transported him to the Washington County Jail.

On 18 Jun 05 Deputy Sheriff Rhodes issued a citation to Christopher E. Flynn, age 18, 3040 West 47th Street, Cleveland, for traveling 71 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputy Rhodes stopped Mr. Flynn near milepost eleven on State Route 7 in Belpre Township.

On 18 Jun 05 Deputy Sheriff Evans initiated a traffic stop on State Route 821 after noting the license plate light on the vehicle he was following was inoperable. In speaking with the driver, Daniel W. Camp, age 34, 969 Gerken Road, Whipple, Deputy Evans noticed Mr. Camp’s speech was slow and lethargic. When asked to exit the vehicle Mr. Camp also could not stand in one place after being told repeatedly to stand without moving. Following his poor performance on horizontal gaze nystagmus tests Mr. Camp was arrested for OVI and for having a faulty license plate light and transported to the Washington County Jail.

On 18 Jun 05 Lt. Wilson observed a vehicle traveling 40 mph in a 55 mph zone on State Route 7, following closely behind another. Witnessing the vehicle travel out of its lane twice in a quarter mile, Lt. Wilson conducted a traffic stop. When questioned, Russell S. Haverty, age 35, 264 Radabaugh Road, Marietta, admitted consuming two shots at the Lawnsdale Bar and stated he was following the aforementioned vehicle because the driver had been drinking and also just left the bar. Mr. Haverty performed poorly on the field sobriety tests administered, was arrested for OVI and transported to the Washington County Jail.

Lee Anna Newbanks, age 22, 1588 Federal Road, Little Hocking, for violating the terms of her probation, a felony. Newbanks was arrested on Veto Road by Deputy Sheriff Stackpole and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 12:25 am.

Tatla Brooke Ellis, age 19, 112 Knox Street Apt. 24, Marietta, for underage consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor. Ellis was arrested on Front Street in Marietta by Patrolman Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 12:50 am.

Daniel Wayne Camp, age 34, 969 Gerken Road, Whipple, for OVI and for having an inoperable license plate light, both misdemeanors. Camp was arrested near his residence by Deputy Sheriff Evans and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 1:10 am.

Russell Sean Haverty, age 35, 264 Radabaugh Road, Marietta, for OVI, a misdemeanor. Haverty was arrested on State Route 7 by Lt. Wilson of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 2:00 am.

Charles Franklin O’Brien, age 18, 6250 Sandhill Road, Marietta, for underage consumption of alcohol and for speeding, both misdemeanors. O’Brien was arrested on Lancaster Street in Marietta by Patrolman Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 2:20 am.

Jay Dee Burge Jr., age 27, Route 2 Box 172, West Union, WV, for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Burge was arrested on Pike Street in Marietta by Patrolman Linscott of the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 3:50 am.

Eric Edward Vereeken, age 26, 6168 64th Avenue, Hudsonville, MD, for consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. Vereeken was arrested on State Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff Mankins and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 9:00 pm.

Robby Lee Smith, age 30, 19065 State Route 676, Marietta, for failure to conform with workers’ compensation, a misdemeanor. Smith was arrested at his residence by Sgt. Hiatt the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 9:05 pm.

Amanda Jo Smith, age 26, 19065 State Route 676, Marietta, for failure to conform with workers’ compensation, a misdemeanor. Smith was arrested at her residence by Sgt. Hiatt the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Jun 05 at 9:07 pm.
