On 18 Mar 05 Deputy Sheriff J. J. Bichard
investigated an assault involving two inmates at the Washington
County Jail. Though hesitant to divulge information at first,
Jerran Knowlton, age 25, 216 Greene Street, Newport, stated
when he and other inmates became tired of watching music videos
on MTV for five hours he asked Lagarbia Johnson, age 28, 330
Limestone Place, Union City, GA, to change the channel. Rebuffed
by Mr. Johnson, Mr. Knowlton made a derogatory comment. In
retaliation, Mr. Johnson struck Mr. Knowlton in the left cheek,
causing him to be transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital
for treatment to his injuries. Based on his investigation and
the extent of Mr. Knowlton’s injuries, Deputy Bichard
will submit his evidence to the Prosecutor’s Office for
possible grand jury consideration.
On 18 Mar 05 Deputy Sheriffs Rhodes and Evans
along with Detectives Jenkins and Seevers began a investigation
into the thefts of cash, CD’s, DVD’s, a .22 caliber
rifle and other miscellaneous items from vehicles parked in
the vicinity of Strecker Lane, Chamberlain Drive and Masonic
Park Road in Devola.
On 18 Mar 05 Deputy Sheriff Parks investigated
a domestic dispute between an eleven year old and his thirty
year old mother that transpired two days before. Angry that
her son resisted having prescribed medication put in his eyes,
the mother gripped her son’s head so tight he sustained
bruised cheeks. Further agitated, the mother also bit her son’s
cheek while he struggled with her. Based on his investigation
Deputy Parks arrested the mother and transported her to the
Washington County Jail while removing the child to the custody
of his grandparents.
On 18 Mar 05 Perry G. Duffy, 4108 State Route
339, Belpre, reported after placing a “free” sign
on old windows and several pipes at the end of his driveway
in a trailer attached to his tractor, he returned two hours
later and discovered his tractor was missing. This case remains
under investigation (592).
On 18 Mar 05 Sgt. Underwood responded to the
scene of the death of an eighty-two year old Belpre woman.
The death appears to be natural though this case remains under
investigation.
On 18 Mar 05 Deputy Sheriff Evans issued a
citation to Joseph K. Huck, age 25, 10405 State Route 676,
Vincent, for having an expired registration. Deputy Evans stopped
Mr. Huck on Wells Road near Mines Road in Waterford Township.
On 18 Mar 05 Deputy Sheriff Evans assisted
in a traffic stop initiated by Detective Schuck on Muskingum
Drive after receiving reports of a driver operating recklessly.
Teresa A. Bennett, age 32, 3065 Lowell Hill Road, Lowell, appeared
highly intoxicated and lost her balance repeatedly field sobriety
tests. Based on his observations, Deputy Evans arrested Ms.
Bennett for OVI and transported her to the Washington County
Jail.
On 18 Mar 05 Stacy V. Warfield, age 33, 20
Maple Lane, Belpre, reported between 5:30 and 9 that evening
an unknown suspect broke the rear window of her Ford minivan.
This case remains under investigation (296).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Amy Joy Richardson, age 20, 922 Grant Avenue
Apt. A, Cambridge, for attempting to purchase alcohol while
underage, a misdemeanor. Richardson was arrested in Marietta
Municipal Court by Patrolman Hivey of the Marietta City Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
18 Mar 05 at 9:55 am.
Timi Jean Zurhorst, age 30, 807 Grandview
Avenue, New Matamoras, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor.
Zurhorst was arrested at her residence by Deputy Sheriff Parks
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 18 Mar 05
at 2:35 pm.
Teresa Ann Bennett, age 32, 3065 Lowell Hill Road, Lowell,
for .17 breath OVI, a misdemeanor. Bennett was arrested on
Muskingum Drive by Deputy Sheriff Evans and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 18 Mar 05 at 10:15 pm.
