On 28 Sep 04 R. John Lehman, PO Box 555, Marietta,
reported to his neighbor’s detriment, that he has grown
weary of picking up chocolate milk containers his neighbor
allegedly throws on his property on a near daily basis. This
case remains under investigation (481).
On 28 Sep 04 an employee of the New Matamoras
Public Library reported while she was mowing the grass at the
library she witnessed a man she recognized attempt to steal
an empty money bag, that belongs to the library, from her car.
This case remains under investigation (792).
On 28 Sep 04 Steve Burton, age 33, 2003 Barth
Road, Belpre, reported his neighbor allegedly removed pins
and signs posted by a surveyor to mark his property line. This
case remains under investigation (792).
On 28 Sep 04 the mother of an eight year old
Newport Elementary School student reported after school that
afternoon two other students allegedly threw rocks and mulch
at her son. This case remains under investigation (792).
On 28 Sep 04 Deputy Sheriff Evans initiated
a traffic stop on US 50 near Farson Street in Belpre after
observing a faulty license plate light on the vehicle he was
following. Deputy Evans identified the driver Benjamin D. Atwood,
age 31, 487 Frederick Road, Bidwell, OH, by his social security
number and detected an odor of alcohol about his person. Mr.
Atwood performed poorly on subsequent field sobriety tests
and arrested for OVI, for driving under an OVI suspended license,
for a felony warrant from Gallia County and transported to
the Washington County Jail.
On 28 Sep 04 Detective Schuck initiated a
traffic stop on Glendale Road in Marietta after being passed
by a motorcycle at a high rate of speed and on a double yellow
line. Detective Schuck caught up after the motorcycle passed
two more cars at speeds the operator admitted were up to 80
mph in a 35 mph zone. As a result of his actions, Benjamin
L. Bowers, age 19, 1530 Nichols Road, Whipple, received a citation
for reckless operation and ordered to appear in court.
On 28 Sep 04 Willard Bush, age 27, 110 Kesselring
Road, Newport, reported an acquaintance came to his home demanding
money in a threatening manner and when he did not comply, the
acquaintance punched him twice in the face. This case remains
under investigation (586).
the Sheriff’s
Office received the following warrants:
James Brumley, age 18, 619 Tenth Street, Marietta,
for failing to appear at a court ordered hearing and for failing
to complete eighty hours of community service.
Timothy A. Hall, age 32, 17941 State Route
550, Marietta, for recklessly violating a temporary protection
order on 25 Sep 04.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Benjamin Davis Atwood, age 31, 487 Frederick
Road, Bidwell, OH, for a felony charge of drug possession and
misdemeanor charges of .08 breath OVI, driving under an OVI
suspended license and for not having a functioning license
plate light. Atwood was arrested on Farson Street in Belpre
by Deputy Sheriff Evans and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 28 Sep 04 at 3:45 am.
James Warren Smith, age 18, 211 Vine Street,
Marietta, for breach of his recognizance, a felony. Smith was
arrested at his residence by Detective Warden of the Washington
County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 28 Sep 04 at 1:14 pm.
Carleton West Sparks Sr., age 44, 313 Harmar Street, Marietta,
for nonsupport of dependants, a misdemeanor. Sparks was arrested
at his residence by Sgt. Hiatt of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 28
Sep 04 at 6:40 pm.
