On 22 Sep 04 Sgt. Hiatt and Deputy Sheriff
Rhodes responded to the scene of a domestic dispute at 1348
Masonic Park Road, Marietta. Upon their arrival John M. Heldman,
age 26, informed the Deputies his father John C., age 49, was
upset with him over a phone bill, punching himself in the head
and creating a disturbance inside the residence. The younger
Heldman also stated his father pushed him, slapped him and
hit him in the chest and that he was in fear for his safety
due to his father’s turbulent behavior. Mr. Heldman the
senior continued to behave irrationally by striking himself,
flailing his legs in the air and threatening to harm himself.
He further resisted efforts to be handcuffed and once restrained
kicked the fenders of his vehicle while being escorted to Sgt.
Hiatt’s patrol car. Mr. Heldman was charged with domestic
violence and transported to the Washington County Jail where
he was given the opportunity to post a cash bond.
On 22 Sep 04 Carline Stevens, age 58, 90 Mitchell’s
Drive, Newport, reported when she was about to take a pain
pill on 19 Sep, she discovered two of her prescription pill
bottles containing a total of twenty pills were missing. This
case remains under investigation (200).
On 22 Sep 04 John Berry, age 53, 870 Rubrake
Road, Fleming, reported between 15 Aug and 22 Sep an unknown
suspect(s) entered a storage building on his property and stole
a Homelite chainsaw, a Stihl chainsaw, two Dewalt skill saws
and a Dewalt battery pack charger. This case remains under
investigation (586).

Office received the following warrants:
Betty A. Hanshew, age 29, 311 Nutter Avenue
Lot 6, Belpre, for driving under an FRA suspended license on
26 Jul 04.
Jeremy D. Backus, age 28, 410 Maple Street,
Marietta, for contempt for failing to appear at a court ordered
hearing on unpaid fines in the sum of $150.80.
Glenda Brubaker, age 62, 169 E. Street, Lakeland, FL, for
failing to appear for a debtor’s exam on 27 Aug 04.
Derek A. Byington, age 25, 356B Williams Road, Wilmington,
OH, for failing to appear for a scheduled trial on 15 Sep 04.
Willie F. Clay, age 38, 203 Webster Street, Clarksburg, WV,
for contempt for failing to appear at a court ordered hearing
on unpaid fines in the sum of $260.
Kevin Cross, age 34, 724 Cumberland Street, Caldwell, for
failing to appear for a debtor’s exam on 27 Aug 04.
Charlie T. Griffith, age 48, 8 Sixth Street, Belpre, for contempt
for failing to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines in the sum of $313.56.
James F. O’Brien, age 27, 11820 State Route 821, Lower
Salem, for violating the terms of his probation by failing
to appear for a scheduled meeting and for failing to make required
monthly fine payments as ordered by the court.
Jamie A. Potts, age 34, 511 Mission Road, Amesville, for violating
the terms of his probation by failing to appear for a scheduled
meeting and for failing to respond to a certified letter.
Thomas E. Stoots, age 59, 114 Bartlett Street, Marietta, for
failing to appear for a debtor’s exam on 18 Jun 04.
Michael A. Barber, age 26, 1011 31st Street, Parkersburg,
for contempt for failing to appear at a court ordered hearing
on an order to show cause.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
John Charles Heldman, age 49, 1348 Masonic
Park Road, Marietta, for domestic violence and for resisting
arrest, both misdemeanors. Heldman was arrested at his residence
by Sgt. Hiatt of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 22 Sep 04
at 2:36 am.
James Warren Smith, age 18, 211 Vine Street,
Marietta, for burglary, a felony. Smith was arrested at the
Marietta City Police Department by Detective Kapple of the
Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 22 Sep 04 at 11:30 am.
