On 16 Aug 04 Alicia D. Miller, age 20, 104
Riley Drive, Marietta, reported the father of her one year
old girl failed to return the child at a previously specified
time. Sgt. Hiatt located the father and child and returned
the child to her mother without incident.
On 16 Aug 04 Charles W. Elder, age 77, 1301
Moody Ridge Road, Vincent, reported at some time during the
past year an unknown suspect stole a septic tank aerator from
a rental property he owns at 2126 Burnfield Road in Vincent.
This case remains under investigation (597).
On 16 Aug 04 Virgil D. Porter, age 68, 42
Mill Street, Waterford, reported within the last week, an unknown
suspect stole the front and rear license plates of his 1992
Subaru Loyale. This case remains under investigation (597).
On 16 Aug 04 a sixty-one year old Little Hocking
resident reported her fifty-six year old sister woke her
and stated she took an unknown amount of prescription medication.
The fifty-six year old was transported to St. Joseph’s
Hospital for treatment and evaluation. This case remains
under investigation (200).
On 16 Aug 04 Deputy Sheriff Simmons filed
a report documenting the death of a seventy-two year old Macksburg
man. The death appears to be due to natural causes, no foul
play is suspected.
FIVE YEAR OLD MAULED BY PIT BULL
On 14 Aug 04 the Sheriff Office’s
and the Dog Warden responded to the residence of Susan Harvey
and Chris Mayle, 11722 State Route 555, Cutler, OH, in response
to an attack by a dog. A pit bull owned by Chris Mayle allegedly
forced its way through a door and bit three people, one of
who was a five-year-old girl. Isabella Tabler, age 5, 13918
State Route 555, Cutler, OH, daughter of James and Amy Tabler
was severely bitten on the shoulder and neck. As a result
of the mauling, Miss Tabler was transported to Marietta Memorial
Hospital by her father and later to Children’s Hospital
in Columbus where she is listed in fair condition. Within
an hour of after the attack, the dog was shot and killed
by a family member. All of the parties involved in this incident
offered full cooperation with the investigating authorities.
The Sheriff’s Office and Dog Warden
urge the owners of vicious dogs, such as pit bulls, to exercise
caution regarding the handling of their animals.
According to Section 955.22 of the Ohio
Revised Code a dangerous or vicious dog, like a pit bull,
must be licensed and the owner shall
Securely confine it at all times in a
locked pen that has a top, locked fenced yard, or other locked
enclosure that has a top, except that a dangerous dog may,
in the alternative, be tied with a leash or tether so that
the dog is adequately restrained.
The Revised Code further requires the owner
of a vicious dog to have a $100,000 liability insurance policy.
The Dog Warden and the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office Detective Bureau are conducting an investigation and
will forward the results to the Washington County Prosecutor’s
Office for appropriate action.

David M. Dulaney, age 21, 1373 St. Clair Avenue,
Stuebenville, OH, for violating the terms of his probation
by failing to show proof of obtaining a valid operator’s
license by 28 Jul 04.
Christina R. Hines, age 34, 213 Curtis Boulevard, Marietta,
for the theft of items valued under five hundred dollars from
Aldi’s on 29 Jun 04.
Betty L. Nice, age 29, 506 Oakwood Avenue, Stonewood, WV,
for violating the terms of her probation by to show proof of
obtaining a valid operator’s license and for failing
to appear to serve three days in jail on 27 Jun 04.
Jessica Lynn Erb, age 23, Boaz Gardens #37, Williamstown,
for violating the terms of her probation by failing to pay
fines in full or appear to serve three days in jail on 6 Aug
04.
John A. Carpenter, age 24, 496 Riverview Road, Malta, OH,
for violating the terms of his probation by failing to enroll
in a Driver’s Intervention program or to make monthly
fine payments as ordered by the court.
Eric W. Morris, age 22, 80 Smith Drive, Marietta, for breach
of recognizance for failing to appear for a pretrial hearing
as ordered by the court on 6 Aug 04.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Justin Allen Tucker, age 22, 202 Walnut Drive,
Marietta, for contempt of a court order, a misdemeanor. Tucker
was arrested in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Rhodes and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 16 Aug 04 at 2:05 am.
Paul Michael Holdren, age 52, 301 Oakwood
Avenue, Marietta, for the illegal possession of a firearm or
weapon on school grounds, a felony. Holdren was arrested at
Marietta High School by Detective Nohe of the Marietta City
Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 16 Aug 04 at 3:45 pm.
Tonya R. Taylor, age 21, 3010 Camden Avenue Apt. E, Parkersburg,
for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid
fines, a misdemeanor. Taylor was arrested by Patrolman Williams
the Belpre City Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 16 Aug 04 at 6:51 pm.
Mark Aaron McIntyre, age 22, 223 Broughton Avenue, Marietta,
for violating the terms of his probation and for squealing
his tires, both misdemeanors. McIntyre was arrested at Ridgewood
Court by Patrolman Chapman of the Marietta City Police Department
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 16 Aug 04
at 9:44 pm.
