On 4 Aug 04 Officer Jones of the New Matamoras
Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven
by Shannon M. Lang, age 24, Marietta, after a passenger in the
vehicle reportedly tried to pass a bad check at a local gas
station. Officer Jones asked Ms. Lang to follow him to the police
department for investigative purposes and the passenger exited
the vehicle and fled on foot. Officer Jones was given permission
to search the vehicle and recovered four checkbooks belonging
to Clarence Alden, age 56, Hillview Trailer Court, Caldwell.
Deputy Sheriff Malone contacted Mr. Alden and learned Ms. Lang
and a friend were staying in a storage building he used on a
friend’s property. Also recovered from the vehicle was
Cleveland Browns memorabilia belonging to Mr. Alden. As a result
of his investigation, Deputy Malone arrested Ms. Lang for receiving
stolen property and transported her to the Washington County
Jail.
On 4 Aug 04 Deputy Sheriff Stackpole was dispatched
to the Washington County Juvenile Center at 1699 Colegate Drive,
Marietta, to assist in the apprehension of a sixteen year old
female who ran away from the facility. When returned to the
Center the juvenile was combative, attempting to strike staff
members and refused to change her clothing when asked. In the
process of re-handcuffing the juvenile, she punched Deputy Stackpole
in the shoulder. As a result of her actions Deputy Stackpole
requested a summons for the juvenile to appear in juvenile court
for being delinquent.
On 4 Aug 04 Deputy Sheriff Stackpole received
a telephone call informing him there was an individual passed
out in the front seat of a truck parked in the lot of Warren
Elementary School on State Route 550. Upon his arrival Deputy
Stackpole observed the suspect, later identified as Adam E.
Sprague, age 23, 170 Oak Drive, Little Hocking, asleep on the
front seat with the keys in the ignition and a beer can lying
on the floor near his feet. When Mr. Sprague awoke Deputy Stackpole
noticed a strong odor of alcohol and requested Mr. Sprague submit
to field sobriety tests, on which he performed poorly. Based
on his investigation Deputy Stackpole arrested Mr. Sprague for
OVI and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
On 4 Aug 04 Sgt. Hiatt was dispatched to the
Beverly Pool to investigate the theft of items from Sponey’s
IGA. When he manifested at the scene an employee of IGA informed
Sgt. Hiatt that he witnessed Kenneth B. Echard, age 21, 318
Main Street, Lowell, stuff four cartons of cigarettes down his
pants and left the store without paying for them. Mr. Echard
gave chase but was cornered at the pool by three IGA employees
and held at bay until Sgt Hiatt arrived. After being read his
rights, Mr. Echard admitted taking the items without paying,
was arrested for theft and transported to the Washington County
Jail.
On 4 Aug 04 Sgt. Hiatt investigated a two vehicle
collision in the parking lot of Titan Fabrication in Marietta.
As Kenneth R. Dennis, age 36, 27 Oak Street, Parkersburg, was
backing a tractor trailer loaded with cargo he failed to notice
a parked Nissan truck owned by Jeffrey A. Augenstein, 75 BF
Goodrich Road, Marietta. Mr. Augenstein’s vehicle sustained
moderate damage while Mr. Dennis’ vehicle was damaged
lightly.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
David Allen Bayless, age 29, Route 1 Box 187B,
Marietta, for driving under an FRA suspended license and for
two counts of failure to appear, all misdemeanors. Bayless was
arrested on Pike Street in Marietta by Patrolman Wenzel of the
Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 4 Aug 04 at 3:05 am.
Andrew Joseph Brooker, age 19, 705 BF Goodrich
Road, Marietta, for obstructing official business, resisting
arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.
Brooker was arrested on Washington Street in Marietta by Patrolman
Huffman of the Marietta City Police Department and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 04 at 3:20 am.
Kenneth Burk Echard, age 21, 318 Main Street,
Lowell, for theft and for underage consumption of alcohol, both
misdemeanors. Echard was arrested at the Beverly Pool by Sgt.
Hiatt of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 04 at 10:05 am.
Adam Eugene Sprague, age 23, 170 Oak Drive,
Little Hocking, for .17 breath OVI, a misdemeanor. Sprague was
arrested on State Route 550 by Deputy Sheriff Stackpole and
processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 04 at 5:10
pm.
John Wayne Luke, age 43, 208 Market Street,
Marietta, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on
unpaid fines, breach of recognizance and for violating a court
ordered protection order, all misdemeanors. Luke was arrested
at his residence by Patrolman Hupp of the Marietta City Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
4 Aug 04 at 8:45 pm.
Shannon Marie Lang, age 21, 106 Riley Drive
Apt. 4, Marietta, for receiving stolen property, a felony. Lang
was arrested in New Matamoras by Deputy Sheriff Malone and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 4 Aug 04 at 10:50 pm.
