On 3 Aug 04 Deputy Sheriff Eddy was dispatched
to the home of Kevin M. Friend, age 52, 1409 Rocky Point Road,
Vincent, in response to a scuffle between two men. Through an
investigation Deputy Eddy learned that William H. Hall, age
46, 99 High Street, Vincent, the ex-husband of Mr. Friend’s
girlfriend, came to the residence and cordially invited Mr.
Friend to borrow his chainsaw. After conversing several minutes
Mr. Hall left the residence and Mr. Friend mounted his tractor
and began mowing his yard. Mr. Friend made a few passes on his
lawn mower before seeing Mr. Hall standing at the corner of
the carport proclaiming he had something else to say. Before
he descended from atop the mower, Mr. Hall thrust a steak knife
at the ribs of Mr. Friend. To the detriment of and unbeknownst
to his assailant, Mr. Friend is a martial arts black belt and
dislodged the knife from the hand of Mr. Hall in several fluid
moves. Mr. Friend proceeded to pin his attacker to the ground
where Mr. Hall appeared to have urinated himself. Mr. Friend
suffered a minor superficial wound to his right forearm while
Mr. Hall was arrested for felonious assault and transported
to the Washington County Jail where he is being held on $35,000
bail.
On 3 Aug 04 Deputy Sheriff Simmons issued a
citation to Geneva R. Smitley, age 53, 525 Kesselring Run Road,
Newport, for traveling 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. Deputy Simmons
stopped Ms. Smitley on County Road 25 near State Route 7 in
Newport Township.
On 3 Aug 04 Deputy Sheriff Eddy responded to
the scene of the death of a sixty-seven year old Cutler resident.
The death appears to be due to natural causes, no foul play
is suspected.
On 3 Aug 04 Ross L. Phillips, age 37, 503 Masonic
Park Road, Marietta, reported between 5:30 and 9:30 that morning,
an unknown suspect(s) remove his mailbox from its post. This
case remains under investigation (232).
On 3 Aug 04 Isaac Mason, age 77, 2179 State
Route 530, Lowell, reported his wallet and contents were stolen
between 1 and 3 Aug. Mr. Mason later located his wallet in the
bathroom of his residence (1091).
the Sheriff’s
Office received the following warrants:
Adam Mason, age 20, 2100 Hill Street Apt. 6,
Belpre, for failing to appear to serve seven days in jail on
26 Jul 04.
William R. Shortridge, age 37, 21460 Varner
Road, Guysville, OH, for passing a bad check for $61 to Napoli’s
Pizza on 5 Feb 04.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Billy Eugene Karnes Jr., age 22, 11 Shadow
Lane, Bedford, VA, for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia,
both misdemeanors. Karnes was arrested on US 50 by the Ohio
State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 3 Aug 04 at 2:45 am.
William Howard Hall, age 46, 99 High Street,
Vincent, for felonious assault. Hall was arrested on Rocky Point
Road by Lt. Coppernoll of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 3 Aug
04 at 2:40 pm.
Jason Lavern Wallace, age 25, Route 1 Box 530C,
Pleasant, WV, for violating the terms of his probation and for
failure to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines,
both misdemeanors. Wallace was picked up at the Jackson County
Jail by Deputy Sheriff O’Brien and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 3 Aug 04 at 4:08 pm.
Kenneth Euwell Devaughn, age 19, 154 Woodcliff
Drive Apt. D, Whitehall, OH, for violating the terms of his
probation, a felony. Devaughn was picked up in Franklin County
by Deputy Sheriff O’Brien and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 3 Aug 04 at 4:10 pm.
Keith Allen Nibert, age 42, 537 Swift Road,
Waterford, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing
on unpaid fines, a misdemeanor. Nibert was arrested on State
Route 339 by Deputy Sheriff Malone and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 3 Aug 04 at 10:27 pm.
