On 5 Jul 04 Deputy Sheriff Simmons investigated
a hit-skip collision at 106 Blake Street in Marietta. Between
11 pm on 4 Jul and 2 am on 5 Jul, an unidentified vehicle traveling
eastbound on Blake Street left the right side of the roadway
near a cul-de-sac, drove through the yard at 106 Blake Street
and damage a section of hedges before reversing direction and
fleeing westbound on Blake Street. This incident remains under
investigation (1184).
On 5 Jul 04 Brian J. Guiler, age 21, Pennock Trailer
Park Lot 43, Beverly, reported between 4 and 10 am that morning
an unknown suspect punctured the right rear tire of his Plymouth
Voyager. This case remains under investigation (1071).
On 5 Jul 04 Shandi R. Fisk, 44491 County Road
56 Apt. 22, Caldwell, reported while her vehicle was parked
on State Route 550 in Barlow between 5 pm on 2 Jul and 4 am
on 3 Jul, an unknown suspect(s) opened the trunk of and bent
the antenna on her Honda Accord. This case remains under investigation
(1203).
On 5 Jul 04 a thirty-four year old Newport woman
reported when she arrived home she smelled alcohol on her sleeping,
fifteen year old daughter’s breath. This case remains
under investigation (697).
On 5 Jul 04 a thirteen year old Marietta resident
reported she was punched in the face by a sixteen year old acquaintance
for allegedly speaking to the assailant’s boyfriend on
the phone. In the presence of her mother, the suspect confessed
to punching the victim and was summonsed to appear in juvenile
court (1091).
On 5 Jul 04 Sgt. Hiatt was dispatched to the home
of a Marietta man who took several sleeping pills in an attempt
to harm himself. The fifty-seven year old was transported to
Marietta Memorial Hospital for treatment and evaluation.
On 5 Jul 04 while working a special detail during
the Newport fireworks display, a spectator informed Detectives
Kapple and Wells of a suspect that refused to leave and was
setting off fireworks in the crowd. The Detectives located Mitchell
L. Greenwood, age 18, PO Box 314, Newport, and noticed he was
under the influence of alcohol and he confirmed he was. Mr.
Greenwood abruptly fled and was apprehended after failing to
scale a chain link fence. Detective Kapple arrested Mr. Greenwood
for underage consumption of alcohol, criminal trespassing, resisting
arrest and obstructing official business and transported him
to the Washington County Jail.
On 5 Jul 04 the Sheriff’s Office began an
investigation after witnessing two suspects set fire to a chair
with an unknown combustible device at the 300 block of Main
Street in New Matamoras (684, 592, 1090, 784, 1190, 1071).
On 5 Jul 04 David Schoonower, age 41, PO Box 169,
Sardis, OH, reported witnessing an unknown suspect throw a smoke
bomb onto the porch of 712 Fourth Street, New Matamoras. This
case remains under investigation (1203).
On 5 Jul 04 Ken Casada, age 49, 115 Longacre Street,
Marietta, reported an acquaintance entered his property against
his wishes. Mr. Casada elected not to pursue the matter further
(1203).
On 5 Jul 04 Sandra K. Heeter, age 28, 90 Orndoff
Road, Stockport, reported her boyfriend allegedly struck her
son. An investigation concluded the allegation was unfounded
(232).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Kelly Michelle Carpenter, age 30, 631 Olloch Road,
Lowell, for OVI and for having faulty tail lights, both misdemeanors.
Carpenter was arrested on Gilman Avenue in Marietta by Deputy
Sheriff Jenkins and processed into the Washington County Jail
on 5 Jul 04 at 12:25 am.
Jonathan Louis Hodge, age 18, 12280 Veto Road,
Marietta, for underage consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor.
Hodge was arrested on County Road 3 by the Ohio State Highway
Patrol and processed into the Washington County Jail on 5 Jul
04 at 4:05 am.
