On 4 Jul 04 Deputy Sheriffs Norman and Brockmeier
were dispatched to 40 McGrath Road, Macksburg, in response to
a fracas between several patrons at the Fox Den bar. Julia C.
Overly, age 34, 420 School Street, Macksburg, stated Donna R.
Giffin, age 50, 520 High Street, Macksburg, entered the bar
and immediately attempted to start a fight. Later as Ms. Giffin
was leaving she threatened to kill Ms. Overly while Ms. Giffin’s
friend, Connie S. Cantwell, age 27, 41680 State Route 60, Caldwell,
pushed Ms. Overly in the chest with two hands, knocking her
backwards. Even as Deputies Norman and Brockmeier attempted
to interview the parties involved Ms. Giffin continued her verbal
tirade threatening to burn down Ms. Overly’s house. Consequently
the Deputies arrested Ms. Giffin for menacing, Ms. Cantwell
for assault and transported them to the Washington County Jail.
On 4 Jul 04 the Sheriff’s Office began an
investigation into the death of a fifty-two year old Marietta
woman. Foul play is not suspected though the case remains open
pending the results of an autopsy (107).
On 4 Jul 04 Deputy Sheriff Jenkins initiated a
traffic stop after observing a vehicle traveling southbound
on Gilman Avenue operating without tail lights. In speaking
with the driver, Kelly M. Carpenter, age 30, 631 Olloch Road,
Lowell, Deputy Jenkins noticed an odor of alcohol and Ms. Carpenter’s
bloodshot eyes. Subsequent to performing poorly on field sobriety
tests and refusing to provide an adequate breath sample, Deputy
Jenkins arrested Ms. Carpenter for OVI and transported her to
the Washington County Jail.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Derek Lee Myers, age 34, 106 ½ Sacra Via,
Marietta, for a felony charge of aggravated burglary and a misdemeanor
charge of domestic violence. Myers was arrested at the Marietta
Police Department by Patrolman Sury of the Marietta City Police
Department and processed into the Washington County Jail on
4 Jul 04 at 12:14 am.
William Thomas Gilliam, age 40, 390 Belavista
Drive, Marietta, for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. Gilliam
was arrested in Barlow by Deputy Sheriff Jenkins and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 4 Jul 04 at 12:19 am.
Connie Sue Cantwell, age 27, 41680 State Route
260, Caldwell, for assault, a misdemeanor. Cantwell was arrested
in Macksburg by Deputy Sheriff Norman and processed into the
Washington County Jail on 4 Jul 04 at 3:25 am.
Donna Ruth Griffin, age 50, 520 High Street, Macksburg,
for menacing, a misdemeanor. Griffin was arrested in Macksburg
by Deputy Sheriff Norman and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 4 Jul 04 at 3:25 am.
Matthew Kevin Burke, age 33, 1416 Hocking Road,
Belpre, for driving under an FRA suspended license and contempt
of a court order, both misdemeanors. Burke was arrested at his
residence by Sgt. Hiatt of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Jul
04 at 12:30 pm.
Brent Allen Carpenter, age 27, 212 Franklin Street,
Marietta, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
Carpenter turned himself in to Deputy Sheriff Mankins at the
Washington County Jail and processed into the jail on 4 Jul
04 at 8:27 pm.
Victor Allen Carver, age 25, 424 Third Street
Apt. 1, Marietta, for failure to appear at a court ordered hearing
on unpaid fines, a misdemeanor. Carver was arrested at the fairgrounds
in Marietta by Lt. Coppernoll of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 4 Jul
04 at 11:25 pm.
