On 9 Apr 04 Michael Jeffers, age 43, 1382 Vickers
Road, Marietta, reported mailboxes belonging to him and several
neighbors on Vickers Road were damaged during over night hours
Thursday. This case remains under investigation (602).
While in response to a domestic violence complaint
on 9 Apr 04, Dispatch informed Deputy Sheriff Eddy the suspect
left the scene in a silver Mercury. Deputy Sheriff Evans located
the vehicle turning onto Tennis Center Drive and initiated a
traffic stop. Subsequent to identifying the passenger as the
suspect and arresting him, Deputy Evans noticed an odor of alcohol
about the driver. As a result of performing poorly on field
sobriety tests Deputy Eddy arrested Russell S. Ferguson, age
21, 431 3rd Street, Marietta, for OVI and transported him to
the Washington County Jail where his probation officer requested
a hold him for a felony violation of his probation.
On 9 Apr 04 Beth A. Huxley, age 22, 836 Pike Street
Apt. 17, Marietta, reported her former live-in boyfriend awakened
her at 4 am by knocking on the door and forced himself inside.
James A. Johnson, age 23, last known address 836 Pike Street
Apt. 17, Marietta, then covered Ms. Huxley’s mouth with
his hand, dragged her to the bedroom and repeatedly struck her.
Mr. Johnson fled the scene, was later arrested on Tennis Center
Drive and transported to the Washington County Jail where he
is being held without bond.
On 9 Apr 04 Deputy Sheriff Kapple investigated
a deer-vehicle collision at mile post 8 on State Route 339.
Trista D. Wise, age 19, 11185 State Route 339, Vincent, was
traveling northbound in her Pontiac Sunfire when a deer bounded
into her path, causing functional damage to her vehicle. Ms.
Wise escaped uninjured though the deer did not fare as well.
On 9 Apr 04 Deputy Sheriff Rhodes investigated
a hit skip accident at 760 Greene Street, Newport. An unknown
vehicle backed from a shared driveway between 740 and 760 Greene
Street and struck a green phone switching box on the property
of 760 Greene Street. This incident remains under investigation.
On 9 Apr 04 while monitoring the area of Lane’s
Farm in Lawrence Township for underage drinking, a vehicle pulled
into the vicinity of Deputy Sheriffs Brockmeier, Stackpole and
Mankins. In speaking with the driver Deputy Mankins observed
an open bottle of beer between the driver’s legs. While
the driver, Donald Wright, age 53, 3417 Lebanon Pike Apt. E,
Hermitage, TN, exited the vehicle Deputy Stackpole noticed a
black handgun near one of the vehicles passengers. Mr. Wright
admitted the weapon was his and was arrested for OVI, driving
under suspension, carrying a concealed weapon, having a weapon
while intoxicated and consuming in a vehicle. While working
the same detail at the aforementioned location Deputy Brockmeier
arrested James A. Cooper, age 18, 136 Dawes Circle, Marietta,
and Jeremy R. Braun, age 18, 195 Caywood Road, Marietta, for
underage consumption after both men admitted doing so. Deputy
Brockmeier also requested a warrant for Baxter L. Grimes, age
27, last known address 817 Grandview Avenue, New Matamoras,
for escape for fleeing the scene of the incident.
On 9 Apr 04 Patty A. Parsons, age 53, 223 Tittle
Run Road, Marietta, reported a substantial amount of cash was
stolen while she was away from her home for a few hours. This
case remains under investigation (1203).
On 9 Apr 04 the father of a seventeen year old
Little Hocking boy reported his son left the home without permission.
Deputy Sheriff Stackpole spoke with the juvenile via cell phone
and the juvenile returned of his own volition. Unruliness charges
were subsequently filed against the seventeen year old in juvenile
court.
On 9 Apr 04 Deputy Sheriff Jenkins initiated a
traffic stop on State Route 676 near State Route 555 after he
observed a vehicle pull off to the shoulder of the roadway.
Upon making contact with the driver, Patrick E. North, age 42,
8920 Old Grade Road, Chesterhill, Deputy Jenkins noticed an
odor of alcohol. Mr. North performed poorly on field sobriety
tests and was arrested for OVI. A further search of Mr. North’s
car yielded a pipe which Mr. North admitted to using to smoke
marijuana. Deputy Jenkins added a charge of possession of drug
paraphernalia and transported Mr. North to the Washington County
Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office
received the following warrants:
Patricia L. Peters, age 37, 15956 State Route
821, Macksburg, for contempt for failing to appear on an order
to show cause and failure to pay child support.
Melissa J. Flesher, age 29, 598 Tennis Center
Drive, Marietta, for contempt for failing to appear on an order
to show cause and failure to pay child support.
Roger L. Ward Jr., age 25, Route 2 Box 258 Township
118, Lowell, for second offense OVI, driving under suspension
and speeding, as charged by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on
28 Mar 04.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Russell Shipley Ferguson, age 21, 431 Third Street
Apt. B, Marietta, for .08 breath OVI, a misdemeanor and for
violating the terms of his probation, a felony. Ferguson was
arrested in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Eddy of the Washington
County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 9 Apr 04 at 5:13 am.
James Allen, Johnson, age 23, 836 Pike Street
Apt. 17, Marietta, for domestic violence, a misdemeanor. Johnson
was arrested in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Evans of the Washington
County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 9 Apr 04 at 5:13 am.
Jeffrey William Welsch, age 18, 607 Elm Street,
Belpre, for theft, a felony. Welsch was picked up at the Marion
Correctional Facility by Deputy Sheriff O’Brien of the
Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 9 Apr 04 at 3:21 pm.
