On 19 Mar 04 an employee at White Oak Pharmacy,
8465 State Route 339, reported between 12 and 14 Mar 04 the
business received five bad checks from the same individual,
totaling $638.43. This case remains under investigation (8411).
On 19 Mar 04 Deputy Sheriff Jenkins stopped
a vehicle on State Route 7 near County Road 10 after clocking
the vehicle at 73 mph in a 55 mph zone. Upon making contact
with the driver Vaughn E. Butler, age 41, 303 Church Street,
Morristown, OH, Deputy Jenkins noticed an odor of alcohol.
Mr. Butler submitted to a breath test, which was over the legal
limit and was arrested for OVI.
The vehicle’s passenger, Justin Matthew Schaefer, age
19, 115 Liberty Lane, Bethesda, OH, also submitted to a breath
test, whose results led to the arrest of Mr. Schaefer for underage
consumption. Both were transported to the Washington County
Jail and given the option to post bond.
On 19 Mar 04 Deputy Sheriff Kapple investigated a hit-skip
collision at 2160 Christy Road, Marietta.
The property’s owner reported between 12 an 4:30 am on
19 Mar, an unknown vehicle struck and demolished her mailbox.
This incident remains under investigation.
On 19 Mar 04 Deputy Sheriff Kapple initiated a traffic stop
on State Route 7 near Clement Avenue in Belpre after he observed
the vehicle swerving outside the marked lanes of travel.
Upon making contact with the driver Brian K. Lada, age 25,
144 Franklin Street, Marietta, Deputy Kapple noticed an odor
of
alcohol and requested Mr. Lada submit to field sobriety tests,
on which he performed poorly. As a result, Mr. Lada was arrested
for OVI and transported to the Washington County Jail where
he was given the option to post bond.
On 19 Mar 04 Deputy Sheriff Evans was dispatched to the Dockside
Tavern, State Route 7, New Matamoras, after witnesses reported
seeing a patron kicking the illuminated sign in front of the
establishment. When Deputy Evans arrived, the suspect was walking
south on Route 7 and fumbled while retrieving his identification.
Ronald P. Berentz, age 26, 724 Main Street, New Matamoras, later
admitted damaging the sign and was arrested for criminal damaging
and disorderly conduct by intoxication then transported to the
Washington County Jail where he was given the option to post
bond.
On 19 Mar 04 Thomas Houck, age 46, 1845 Silver Globe Road, reported
an unknown vehicle entered his driveway and intentionally struck
four pear trees. This incident remains under investigation (1090).
On 19 Mar 04 an employee of Cedar Bark Apartments, 10 Browns
Road, Marietta, reported an unknown suspect(s) damaged a change
machine in the laundry room in an ill fated attempt to gain
entry.
This incident remains under investigation (597).
On 19 Mar 04 Dan Kern, 370 Kern Road, Waterford, reported an
unknown suspect(s) broke into a cabin on his property and removed
a number of hand tools without permission.
This incident remains under investigation (698).
On 19 Mar 04 Deputy Sheriff Brown was dispatched to meet with
Natalie S. Weckbacker, age 20, Coal Run Hill Road, Coal Run,
regarding a domestic dispute. Ms. Weckbacker stated her former
live-in boyfriend Jason W. Ross, age 28, Box 64 Coal Run Road,
Coal Run, began to pour beer over her head then struck her
in
the mouth while holding the can.
Consequently, Deputy Brown arrested Mr. Ross for domestic violence
and transported him to the Washington County Jail.
On 19 Mar 04 Deputy Sheriff Huck was dispatched to the vicinity
of 507 Cisler Lane, Marietta, after the home’s resident,
Dawn R. McLaughlin, age 40, ran to a neighbor’s home and
complained her live-in boyfriend John W. Reasoner, age 38, was
highly intoxicated and threatened her with a knife. Based on
his investigation Deputy Huck arrested Mr. Reasoner for domestic
violence and transported him to the Washington County Jail where
he was released on bond.

Office received the following warrants:
Clarence O. Jeffers II, age 40, 206 Meigs Street,
Marietta, for failing to appear at a court ordered hearing on
an order to show cause.
Gary F. Wick, age 36, Route 5 Box 329A, Marietta, for contempt
for failing to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines
in the sum of $150.
Tabitha D. Way, age 22, 7042 South Dale Road, Stockport, or
contempt for failing to appear at a court ordered hearing on
unpaid fines in the sum of $494.
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Justin Matthew Schaefer, age 19, 115 Liberty
Lane, Bethesda, OH, for underage consumption, a misdemeanor.
Schaefer was arrested on State Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff Jenkins
of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 19 Mar 04 at 2:05 am.
Vaughn Eric Butler, age 41, 303 Church Street, Morristown,
OH, for OVI and speeding, both misdemeanors.
Butler was arrested on State Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff Jenkins
of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 19 Mar 04 at 2:25 am.
Brian Keith Lada, age 25, 144 Franklin Street, Marietta, for
.08 breath OVI and driving outside marked lanes of travel, both
misdemeanors. Lada was arrested on State Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff
Kapple of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 19 Mar 04 at 3:50 am.
Ronald Paul Berentz, age 26, 724 Main Street, New Matamoras,
for criminal damaging/endangering and disorderly conduct by
intoxication, both misdemeanors.
Berentz was arrested on State Route 7 by Deputy Sheriff Evans
of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 19 Mar 04 at 4:45 am.
Robert Van Porter Jr., age 41, 100 Sandpiper
Village Apt. H, St. Marys, for contempt of a court order and
for failing
to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines, both
misdemeanors.
Porter was picked up at the North Central Regional Jail in
Charleston by Deputy Sheriff Underwood of the Washington County
Sheriff’s
Office and processed into the Washington County Jail on 19 Mar
04 at 9:11 am.
John Michael Porter, age 20, PO Box 110, Vincent, for failing
to appear at a court ordered hearing on unpaid fines, a misdemeanor.
Porter was arrested in Belpre by Patrolman Williams of the Belpre
City Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 19 Mar 04 at 9:50 am.
Jason Wayne Ross, age 28, PO Box 64 Main Street, Coal Run,
for domestic violence, a misdemeanor.
Ross was arrested in Marietta by Deputy Sheriff Brown of the
Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed into
the Washington County Jail on 19 Mar 04 at 10:10 pm.
Justin Bryce Davis, age 21, 782 Glendale Road,
Marietta, for violating the terms of his probation, a misdemeanor.
Davis was arrested in Marietta by Patrolman Huffman of the
Marietta
City Police Department and processed into the Washington County
Jail on 19 Mar 04 at 9:50 am.
