On 1 Jan 04 Deputy Sheriff Eddy was dispatched
to a Lowell residence in reference to a juvenile being intoxicated,
cutting his hand after punching a fish tank and threatening
to shoot himself with a shotgun. The Salem Township Volunteer
Fire transported the juvenile to Marietta Memorial Hospital
for treatment and evaluation. As a result of the incident Deputy
Eddy filed an affidavit requesting a summons for the juvenile
for being delinquent.
On 1 Jan 04 while on patrol southbound on State Route 7 in
New Matamoras, Deputy Sheriff Jenkins observed a vehicle driving
with one headlight turn northbound onto State Route 7.
After initiating a traffic stop and making contact with the
driver Deputy Jenkins noticed an odor of alcohol. The driver,
Kevin J. Kennedy, age 42, 2641 Maxine Northeast, Canton, OH,
failed field sobriety tests, was arrested for OMVI and transported
to the Washington County Jail.
On 1 Jan 04 Deputy Sheriffs Evans and Kapple were dispatched
to the home of James I. Simpson, age 23, 1946 Swift Road, Waterford,
after Mr. Simpson reported an unknown suspect entered his home.
Mr. Simpson chased the suspect out of his home but later heard
the horn of his truck go off in his garage. Mr. Simpson found
the same suspect in the vehicle and after the suspect became
verbally aggressive, Mr. Simpson punched him in the face and
the suspect again fled. Later, the suspect attempted go gain
entry to the home and was met by Mr. Simpson with a wooden baseball
bat blow to his shins. The suspect then fled past Mr. Simpson’s
barbed wire fence to a neighbor’s pole barn. Deputies
Evans and Kapple located the suspect, with a cordless phone
in his possession, attempting to start a 1981 Ford truck.
Deputies learned from a neighbor that suspect entered her home
and used the phone while standing in her kitchen. To compound
his problems, the suspect, William T. Brewer, age 18, 940 Germantown
Road, Lower Salem, was also intoxicated at the time of his
arrest.
Mr. Brewer was arrested for criminal trespassing, underage
consumption, two counts of attempted theft and burglary and
transported to
the Washington County Jail.
On 1 Jan 04 an employee of the Cliffside Carryout, State Route
550, Marietta, reported an individual consumed a bag of peanuts
and a candy bar on the premises without paying.
The same individual also pilfered a Miller Light collectible
beer stein. This case remains under investigation (200) (698).
On 1 Jan 04 Stephanie D. O’Brien, age 27, 2610 Braun Road,
Belpre, reported an individual she has a protection order against
called her home and cellular phone and made threats toward her,
in violation of said protection order. This case remains under
investigation (200).
